I love the disc design, it's 'almost' tempting me to grab this just in case the future standard release gets plain-looking discs, but not at the price they are asking
![]() Not a film I watch very often (can't even remember the last time I watched my DVD copy) but it's always a treat when I do. |

Art wise its not normally a style I like but I do think this one works pretty well, more subtle and less in your face than something like The Driver.
Its better than that terrible bluray cover anyway that tried to make the film look like a late 90's techno thriller. |

I'm not joking that *every* time I open the UHD forum here I Ctrl+F for 'conversation' and check the last couple pages in case I missed it being announced. Did a double-take that I wasn't in the wishlist board.
This is top 10 UHD wishlist for me. Bit skeptical about a StudioCanal encode (their Apocalypse Now one wasn't great imo) but HELL YES to any release. |

It can be a bit of a coin toss with SC but they have a lot of incredible 4K releases to their name at this point. I'd say that they do excellent work most of the time or for most of the releases I'm interested in, at least.

Do we expect there will be any difference in encoding with the German ArtHaus release (has there been in the past)?
I know for example the German release of Wong Kar-wai's In the Mood for Love had better encoding than the French release. Wasn't an ArtHaus release though. Last edited by Pans; 05-08-2024 at 04:32 PM. |

The artwork is by Laurent Durieux and Francois Schuiten from 2017 or 2018. Francois Schuiten is a Belgian comic artist. I highly recommend to check out Schuitens Les Cités Obscures series. It's heavily influenced by architecture, surrealistic, Kafkaesque, umberto eco inspired.
Durieux works with lots of fine lines thoughtout his whole artwork. I have this Breakfast at Tiffanys screenprint framed in my hallway. If you click full size of the picture you can see all the lines of his illustration. I really adore most of his work. Sadly his prints sell fast, and on the secondary market the prices go up above 1000 EUR plus. [Show spoiler] Often these artworks are older works and the labels license them. When they're created for the size of a screen print, the detail gets lost when you reduce it to a Digipack/keep case format. In 2020 he released a book with his work: https://www.amazon.de/Mirages-Art-La...s%2C103&sr=8-1 |

Yes, I chose to use Durieux prints as the aesthetic for my film watching room:

The trailer for the 4K restoration looks fabulous to me. It looks like a film shot in 1972-73. Hoping a US release comes along soon, but who’s to say how it’ll compare to the European discs.

Tenia, a trustworthy source, posted a short comment over at Criterionforum that he received a screener BD (no UHD) from SC and that it looks spectacular. He’d have definitely noticed encode issues, so I’ll take this as a good sign that maybe David / FiM was hired again after the last Coppola release.

Jeez, it's #8 on my Top 100 Wishlist, but that is mad scrilla!
This WILL get another release without the baggie of Gene Hackman's moustache clippings and the limited edition saxophone spit valve, right? Right? Really hard FOMO on this one. |
