Well that's depressing. I have the Curzon-version ordered. It's the same transfer obviously, but I hope for a better encode at least.

Don't worry about the review. All I'm gonna say!

Absolutely insane take from the doctor. Obviously can't speak for the Criterion encode (have the Curzon on preorder) but the restoration itself is nothing short of a true stunner from screencaps.

I’m going to wait with purchase until I read reviews comparing the Criterion and the Curzon.

I saw the movie when it premiered and committed the precise color timing to memory and, unfortunately, have to report that the review is right. The colors on the previous release are correct and the colors on this one are not. Why didn't they consult me, who has seen the movie theatrically and memorized the color point values with precision, instead of whatever people they had approve this transfer?

What's wrong with the encode? The review only mentions issues with color (which we can never take the doctor's opinions on color seriously), not encoding related issues.

People always citing poor encodes on Criterion's releases. I don't have experience with them myself, I only have regular Blu rays from them, and not many.

I wish Criterion would make reversible artwork with original poster art. I've always felt a special connection to the movie. I mean, Stanton basically covers up the exact spot I was born, grew up and returned to and now live at on the original theatrical poster. It's surreal seeing those names on a major theatrical poster. Deport....seriously? There's more people on the poster than the population of Deport lol..

Teal was invented by Lucasfilm in 1999 as a scheme to destroy all film so digital could take over. Movies were never blue-green before that. The brave DVD-makers of the 2000s were heroes for trying to retain perfectly neutral and/or magenta-biased filmic transfers to stave off the godless digital heathenry.

Don't we all remember how films looked in movie theaters we saw 30+ years ago?

This was the fashion style back in the 80s, right?
It might explain what's been happening.

Well that's a mess. Not quite sure why he'd prefer that version.

Isn’t he German? European ratio might be the original preferred ratio.

I didn't even need to read the review. I saw the score he gave and knew exactly what he was gonna say about it just from that.

Cole’s notes version of the review: “4k doesn’t look dated and dated is betterer”.

It's ridiculous.

I get constantly banned for a couple of boo boo words, but Dr. Svet gets to keep "reviewing" on the home page.

Got the Curzon preordered, and I’m hoping this is going to be one of the best looking titles of the year along with The Hitcher, yet both get 3.5 for PQ

One of the best things that's been said in this entire thread.
