i'm curious about this myself. we know how lousy all previous versions of the film have looked so it would be beneficial to the viewing experience if the video bits actually looked like video

Amazon UK is a bit schizophrenic today. I pre-ordered the regular edition and got my pre-order notification email. I went back an hour later to check another item and it showed my pre-order as CANCELLED. I checked my email and there was nothing about this (I hadn't cancelled it, obviously). I just went back to Amazon UK again and it is now showing as ordered with a proper delivery date.

I placed my order for the LE at Atomic Movie Store. This will be my first purchase from them. I really can't wait to see how it'll look as it was intended. I only watched this for the first time a few years ago, on FX on-demand. It made me so internally anxious. The scenes that really made my heart pump was
[Show spoiler]the fight over the map, Heather screaming Josh's name after he disappeared, and then when Josh was screaming in the night
. I had been holding out on getting the blu-ray in hopes we'd get a release like this.

I'm really curious about what will be in Heather's journal. I'm assuming or hoping lore will be in it.

Originally shot on video then transferred to film. Film itself has some noise and those older transfers probably don't help in that department. So, there could be less of it somewhere from the original Hi8 itself.

Video being 30fps, I would think the new Blu-ray would reflect that yes?

I was going to ask someone about that. I have a Panasonic 820 and thought possibly the top-menu trick might work. At the same time I know there are labels where that's usually possible and other labels where that's usually not possible.

Do you know if this is one of the labels where that trick usually works?

Looking forward to this, having not seen it in well over a decade and previously not since release. It's one of the few horror films I've seen at the cinema that sent me straight to the pub for a few settlers. I really appreciated how much was unspoken and left to the audience to imbue with significance.

The lore stuff in the set-up was also great, just planted enough seeds for you to join your own dots on various things. I'm not even sure how well developed that 'unseen story' is but the filmmakers created an atmosphere where I felt imaginatively invested and that's a success in my book. While the saturation of the found footage genre will likely weaken its impact now, I'm really interested to see how it holds up and I'm very keen on the extras. Will be the first big box LE I've picked up in quite a while.

The film transfer will have altered the video frame rate, yes. Hence some of us wondering if the new restoration will be 1080i60 to preserve "30fps" video.

The film transfer will have introduced natural film grain. I imagine the hi8 tapes will have their fair share of video noise. To see that without the added layer of film grain would match the filmmaker's intent too. Only the 16mm bits should look like film.

The top-menu trick probably won't work since it doesn't work with the region b blu-ray extras disc in the Second Sight Dawn of the Dead 4k set.

Amazon is doing this is with most things lately. If you check the order immediately following ordering, it says 'cancelled'. A minute later it is OK.

How do you hack a PS3? Cause this what I'd do

I def. wouldn't say that.. Every region B Second Sight disc i've tried has worked besides that one including the other recent Found Footage releases of The Sacrament, Borderlands and Gonjiam (I actually have this one on the way but I seen someone else report that it worked for them). It's still a gamble regardless though.

Hmm, interesting. I'll just have to wait to see if someone is able to do the menu maneuver once they get theirs.

Only if you're going off the Amazon prices.

The actual prices are £22.99 standard, £44.99 LE.

So that's say £15 for the book, £7 for the journal? Par for the course as far as books are concerned. Go in to a bookshop and buy a BFI Classics paperback. It'll be £12.99 and half the page count of the hardback included here.

Not sure where this attitude comes from of close-to-200-page hardback books being a "that's all?" footnote that shouldn't be factored in to the price of these sets.

You're more than welcome to message me around release and I'll check for you.

Also, as a Panasonic owner you might want to check out this thread that was created a couple Months ago where Members report what movies worked and didn't work with the trick.

I have the DVD of this from way back when, and I know it's not the filmmaker's vision blah blah, but I am trying to defeat FOMO for a movie I haven't actually felt a need to revisit in a long time - but it is a good movie and the extras seem neat. What are predictions on when/if it sells out?

Ugh. I told myself I wasn't going to purchase the L.E , that I was going to just buy the standard disc and put it into my collectors vhs bluray set of #1 & 2. I failed.

I found this and I wonder if it will be the contents in Heather's journal in the set (of course, in better/new condition as the look suggests in the photo of the set):

Looks like that's what they're going for judging by the cover.

Not a fan of the lazy handwriting-style font on the notebook cover for the Blu-ray version though considering the care that seems to have gone into the rest of the set.
