I had no idea there were cut/uncut/alternative versions of this film. I had it on VHS in the 90s and it was one of the first Van Damme films I saw.

Then my next favourites: AWOL, Cyborg, Death Warrant and Universal Soldier.

One more major one off the list of childhood favorites. I just need Pee-wee's Big Adventure and Don't Tell Mom now.

I can see why most of the American audience wouldn't know it was cut/dubbed etc. The cuts/dubbed voice only came to my attention when I was around 14 and imported the HBO Kickboxer DVD. Before that, I had always watched my UK rental VHS tape. As soon as I heard Eric's voice I knew something was up and then when the hospital scene was also missing, I thought I was sent a bootleg or something

Who did it better, Van Damme or the Shatner?

Amazing effort, Joel. Thank you. You're right up there with the despecialization guy and the fan who sorted out the 60s Batman series rights.

I'm now intrigued! I think I've only ever watched the UK VHS... I had the one I saw in your photos earlier - red lower banner, silver/grey side banner, "revenge is a dangerous motive".

That UK VHS version is still missing over a minute of violence, but it has the original voices and all the plot scenes that were deleted from the US version.

The only main things missing from the US final fight are;

* Further shot of Mylee shouting "Noksukau"
* Tong Po being spun around by a kick from Kurt
* Uncut version just had the eagle flashbacks, not the warriors fighting
* Slightly longer shot of Mylee cutting the glass hand wraps off Kurt

lionsgate released it in the UK on Blu-Ray in 2015 so I presume they might release it again in 4k unless someone like studio canal release it cause they seem to release films about a month or two before lionsgate releases it.

Can't wait for this one. The opening song alone is worth the price of admission.
