This site's listed stuff and then not actually sold it before, has it not?

I know this particular hobby is one serviced by a lot of niche sellers/storefronts whose whole thing is essentially securing money via pre-sale as early and as often as possible, which is why nobody, anywhere, ever can stop the FOMO.

But I've seen some discussion elsewhere stating this site's basically listed these (and other) titles before and people plonk down that pre-order cash and then... nada.

And also, for what it's worth: It makes perfect sense for people to hear Kill Bill is coming to UHD and to be disappointed it's not Whole Bloody Affair. It would be weird if they didn't. You don't even have to point at the umpteen other "holy grail" cuts and versions people have been hoping for and then wishing into existence over the history of physical media - I remember there was a very long period of time where Grindhouse came out as two separate movies and could only be watched as two separate movies and the theatrical experience was nowhere to be found. And then one day, there it was.

It's okay for people to want The Whole Bloody Affair on disc, especially when it comes to the films' debut on a new format.

Wait, wait, wait...

The site doesn't sell anything.

Some companies have lost deals before, so yes, things have been announced and then pulled, or taken years to come out.

At the same time, people (directors, producers) have mentioned that something's coming, but no date.

So what's your point here?

I wonder whether we will be getting a box set of all Lionsgate Tarantinos eventually...

So there's no actual announcement, someone just dug up that a UPC got assigned to a couple UHDs (presumably) but there's nothing actually saying anything's actually coming (yet).

And there's precedent for people hawking this site leading to bupkes in terms of announcements actually coming, or product actually resulting from the listing that's been dug up and posted.

It's pretty clear, innit? This seems kinda premature, especially if it's known that nothing can (and has) actually come of hawking this spot for non-announcement "announcements" vs an actual listing from a larger retailer, or a manufacturer, or an actual studio.

I’m fine with the versions as they were released. I’d go see a screening of The Whole Bloody Affair version which would be a lot of fun, but being the exact movies I fondly remember in the theater is no deal breaker for me.

At this point we have no idea if this includes the Japanese Cut or not, or if there will be a TWBA separate release, so I wouldn’t jump to conclusions until actual specs are released. This is just a placeholder. The fact that this missed the actual 20 year anniversary makes me think there could be the Japanese Cut in 4K or something special that may have delayed things.

This is probably the final release (at least on physical) so whatever we get here is probably what we get, at least for as long as Tarantino is alive and has opinions on things.

Don't fool yourselves, this will be the same version that has released before, just in 4K.

If it wasn't coming it wouldn't be assigned UPCs. Stuff gets cancelled or re-shuffled sometimes though. A couple Fincher titles were assigned codes (and Panic Room got cover art iirc) but were all cancelled. Kino's Bug got a release date and everything but was cancelled, and recently got put back on the slate. So even then, things change that late in the game sometimes. We've known Kill Bill's been coming for awhile and this finally confirms it, and the likelyhood it being cancelled is zero.

Well, count me in as a TWBA "whiner".

I'm not a big Tarantino fan anyways, it's just that the Kill Bill films are far closer to my usual taste in films (martial arts films and anime, I know I'm not the only person who's seen the two compared to a live action anime) so my Blu-ray of the theatrical versions will suffice if we're not getting an extended/unrated/whatever cut.

I read that Peter Jackson, George Lucas and James Cameron are working on all of the remaining Tarantino films for 4K UHD. Can't wait.

It would've been great if they followed what Universal did with Hitchcock or their monsters collections. Same day boxset and standard individual releases.

I think the rights to these movies reverted back to Tarantino (which is why they're no longer with Paramount) so it really depends on what deal he made with Lionsgate.
He's apparently working with Arrow on their Inglorious Basterds release and maybe down the line he'll want to do the same for these movies. Arrow will be much more likely to include multiple versions.

It’s about time. Hope they don’t mess up the audio though, the LPCM on the BD is a monster!

There's apparently a distribution listing for the Whole Bloody Affair on 4K for 1/25...

I have a feeling we'll be let down again but fingers crossed.

Put me in the minority I guess. I think the black and white change is dope as ****. The color version is cool too but I swear up and down it feels way more Tarantino-ish in the transition.

I also love vol.2 opening with the car monologue. I wouldn’t want to watch it any other way.

There was a guy in the wish list 4K thread saying that the people behind this disk are the same ones who got Apocalypse Now released in scope and “know what the fans want”.

I think there’s a 50/50 chance we get TWBA. I don’t think it’s the long shot some people think. Guess we’ll know soon enough. Jan 25 isn’t too far!

I'll be fine with just theatrical. If they add WBA, it will be amazing. But if not, it's good too.
