All Disney+ Originals are steelbook only worldwide. Thankfully they are not limited. They are also different however in that they are not released on DVD or digital. New Marvel, Lucasfilm and 20th Century branded 4K releases are handled what we would call normally. Catelogue releases are handled differently and are inconsistent with no clear pattern at the moment. It's probably case by case with them. As Disney explained themselves last year, the Sony deal is them doing what they are doing in Europe: getting someone else to distribute their physical media releases. To date, the only real changes from the Sony deal appear to be the steelbooks being available everywhere including Amazon instead of just Wall Mart. As well as Dolby Vision being included in select 4K releases. Thankfully otherwise the releases and specs are the same as Disney was doing anyway. Which is good since Sony usually region locks their Blu-ray and they also just do 5.1 sound on Blu-ray. Of course stuff can easily change. In my opinion Disney and Sony were the worst of the 5 major distributors from the perspective of what they released and how they did so and nothing has changed. It is very true that sadly Sony has given up on releasing their own animated movies on 4K unless it's Spider-Man with The Garfield Movie doing quite well but skipping it and the fact they have had the first two Hotel Transylvania movies in 4K on digital for years as the main examples. Sony like Disney has also remastered various titles in 4K but never released them on 4K. They also funilly enough have multiple Marvel movies not in 4K too. In conclusion, it's still up to Disney what is and isn't released. Even for Lucasfilm titles, while Lucasfilm might want something released it is still up to Disney as Lucasfilm wanted Strange Magic and Star Wars Resistance on Blu-ray but Disney sadly didn't. |

Tactics like this and prices in general have nearly killed my collecting of physical media, sadly. |

Further confirmed now with Lion King.
All new Disney branded titles on 4K are only available as limited edition steelbooks in North America. Last edited by Brayden96; 02-03-2025 at 04:02 PM. |

it's just so pathetic cause now when people don't buy they say "welp, guess no wants physical media."
Corporate greed and gaslighting. Screw Disney. |

Weird that Target is only listing the BD. From what I have seen lately, they always post all formats at the same time (not BD one day, 4k later, etc). Hope they actually carry the steelbook so that it can be bought during one of their sales.

Anyone know if there is a number that goes to Disney or Sony corporate to figure out which moron or morons think this strategy of theirs is a good one? I mean $65 for 1 movie, a children’s movie mind you, is outrageous!
I can buy The Back to the Future Trilogy, which is more iconic than Moana 2 for $40. I just don’t get it! |

Inside Out 2 sold out at the insane price at many retailers. Deadpool & Wolverine and Alien: Romulus sold well too. It is basically the economy now. Enough people paid the increased price so it stays that way. It does not affect whether a product is removed. Look at clothing. You can buy shirts for $5 to $10 but there is a market for $150 to $300 shirts. Shoes can be $15 to $20 but sell for upwards of $70 or more. The prices went up and stayed that way because consumers consume. |

An increase of $5-$10 is understandable but not $30, for a children’s film. It’s overkill! |
