The project is described as having shades and structure of The Fly, David Cronenberg’s 1986 that starred Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis and centered on the tragic relationship between a scientist who becomes fused with the DNA of a fly and the journalist writing about his discovery.

Clayface, which sources have said will have a budget in the mid-$40 million range, centers on an ascending actor whose face is disfigured by a gangster. As a last resort, the actor turns to a fringe Elizabeth Holmes-style scientist for help. At first, the experiment is a successful but … well, it wouldn’t be a horror movie if the story ended right there, would it?

Have there been any teases as to where they're going with Clayface in this universe? I think the movie sounds super interesting to be clear, I just of course associate the character with Batman and from what we heard, I think this originated more in the Reevesverse before becoming a DCU project and so far it's seemed unlikely the two universes will merge. Maybe setup for The Brave and the Bold project (although I am not investing more energy into DC projects which aren't actually yet filming after the DCEU era)?

Supposedly Clayface was supposed to be a villain in The Batman 2, but because Gunn wanted to use Clayface in the DCU he told Matt Reeves to change it and that's why the Batman 2 script took so long.

Yeah, that's more or less what feels likely too just given what's been divulged publicly about Reeves and Clayface and then having the character migrate over to the DCEU, but still with Reeves producing for DCU Clayface despite what appears like a disinterest in merging his universe with the DCU.

Pretty curious how they're going to navigate the DCU Batman with Reevesverse Batman. Guessing he'll be given something along the lines of a kind-but-firm mandate to finish his trilogy, add on to Penguin if he wants, but after that it's a wrap and he can either conclude the universe or get with the program (read: merge it into the DCU).

All which I guess makes sense. I don't think they will want to run two fully parallel live-action Batman series and can only delay introducing Batman into the DCU for so long. Other members of the Bat family will not suffice for long, and I don't see them bringing in Terry Batman rather than Bruce Batman or something.
