How is the 5.1 track on the previously relased BDs? Are we missing much from that compared to the Mono track this will have?

Orbit has the standard edition for $28, that's not too expensive at all considering other releases. I'm on a pretty tight budget monthly too. lol

They should use the original art and the people who want something “fresh” should be the ones forced to make their own custom artwork. For crying out loud.

I personally don’t get the dislike of the newly commissioned art. Like it or not, it’s well executed and evocative of the film. That said, I’m also a big fan of original poster and promotional art when it’s utilized in package design. But the use of copyrighted original theatrical poster art takes additional cost and wheeling and dealing, you don’t just slap it on there, and it seems like that’s an aspect others aren’t considering.

I think SS is creating a very cool house style across all their releases. And they’ve all been reviewed fairly favorably that I can see.

This is not necessarily true, no. A lot or most of them were commissioned and are owned by whomever owns the film and can be used appropriately. Whether or not the owners hand the material over to use is another thing. Second Sight already used the original key art on their old release (different font though) and I'm guessing they dropped it intentionally this time cuz whomever's in charge wants it that way. They did do reversible art for a bit but that stopped.

The standard edition is not "bare bones" it contains the exact same disc as the limited edition just not the box and book.

I’m assuming the product pages here on blu-ray.com are incorrect, as they currently state 2 discs for the 4K LE, and 1 for the standard edition?

The listing is correct. The LE has 1 UHD and 1 Blu ray (the contents of both discs are identical). The standard editions just have the UHD or the Blu ray, depending on which you get. But all the discs will have the film and all special features.

Good to know, thanks! Like several others here really not impressed at all with the box art & cards, so will go for the standard 4K.

SS’s art has got to be close to the worst in the business, among the boutiques. Their discs are exemplary, of course, tied with VinSyn and Arrow for the best in the business. Best art in the business= Warner Archive, Kino, Indicator. For obvious reasons.

Completely agree. Their idea of what a good cover is (usually a character from the film in an action pose surrounded by a block colour) just looks so f'n tacky and unofficial. I have no idea why they do not just use the original poster art. From what I've seen on the forums over the years--ya' know, the people that actually purchase and collect boutique releases--the overwhelming majority seem to want original art versions.

I just wish they'd bring back reversible art.

Second Sight art is leagues better than Arrow, in my opinion.

Not a fan of any Arrow commissioned art - which is why I'm glad they're reversible.

Outside of the Bruce Lee individual releases and The Dollars Trilogy (all hail Stella). they stink.

Second Sight hit way more often than they miss. I've got Re-Animator reversed to match the Bride of and Beyond Arrow releases - with all three showing original poster art - but the Graham Humphreys comissioned sleeve is gorgeous. The only Second Sight cover I've seen which looked icky was Dog Soldiers.

I do wish they had reversible sleeves with poster art too, but their comissioned art is way more attractive than the majority of Arrow's output.

This. If you don't instantly flip the slip-sleeve art on every Arrow LE 4k box set the moment you unbox it, you're doing it wrong

If' we're talking about gorgeous poster paintings from the 80's and earlier, then yeah, mostly the art is often stunning. 90's onward, poster art often started to get lazy, so even if it's the original "art", it's often cut-and-paste floating heads and other bad photoshop tricks.
Wait....they were still making movies after the 1980s????????

Finally have some time to catch up on some of these threads. Also, I had forgotten I pre-ordered the two movies talked about in this thread so I'm guessing I already paid for them!

I already have the Criterion Scanners and assuming this new release will be better. Since I had forgotten about this, the waiting time for me has been cut in half!
