It starts 1 hour and 39 minutes into the movie (counting from the second the A24 logo pops on the screen)

Yeah, you spent three and a half hours staring at a blank screen!

I hope the chair was comfy, at least...

I'm in a location of the UK where no cinemas are showing this film - I'm praying Universal do an expansion in the next week or two!

As for the 4K, I'm praying it has the full intermission. It probably will, given it has a score they'd likely be hesitant to cut out, but given the screener only has a 1 minute intermission, we'll see...

$34.99. I pre-ordered and it hasn’t been cancelled so I can still see it.

I felt the same way. Part 1 is really good, but Part 2 after the intermission was a big dropoff in quality and the Epilogue was awful.

It's a good film, but I don't think it should be the Best Picture frontrunner.

What should be the frontrunner then?

I dont think it is. It's three+ hours, the voting body doesnt have that kinda energy or care for filmmaking and until today Emilia Perez was the big one to look for, but that cast members very illuminating viewpoints on race relations, vaccinations and life have devoured that entire press run. For the voting body that makes up the Academy; Conclave or A Complete Unknown are some geezer pleasers of the highest regard and probably stand a better chance now that the EP star has shown her ass all over the internet and is getting write ups in all the rags about it.

Voting doesnt start until 2/11 and ends on 2/18 so there's still time for Corbet and Co to run up the numbers, but I just dont see it happening with its runtime.

Conclave is missing the Director nomination and A Complete Unknown lacks that crucial Editing one. Not saying either can't win because of these, but their absence is clear sign that neither is a frontrunner.

I think the race circles back to The Brutalist vs Anora, which was the original expectation from a few months back. There's probably more passion and love for Anora in the film industry, but there's no denying that The Brutalist is the bigger cinematic achievement. Right now it's in a really good spot for Director, Actor, Cinematography and Score, which is a good combination for a Best Picture Winner imo.

If I had to guess:

BRUTALIST takes Best Picture, Director, Actor, and multiple "below the line" (hate that term lol) wins, while ANORA gets Best Actress—not giving up on Mikey Madison just yet!—and Original Screenplay. And I could see either one getting Editing.

Honestly though, they are tied for my favorite of 2024 and I'd be equally happy with either. That said, THE BRUTALIST feels more like a Best Picture choice to me, in a "grand 3.5 hour epic that actually persevered despite the many obstacles against it" kind of way.

To all the morons complaining about the runtime. Think of it like this: You watch a 99-minute movie. Take a break for 15 minutes. Then, you watch another 99-minute movie sequel. It's not that long (nor does it feel long.)

I don't care if you have the best home setup in the world... if you do NOT see this in IMAX, you are doing yourself a MASSIVE disservice. You did not see the movie.
I replaced my front row of seats with adjustable beds.. I may not have the best home setup in the world, but it is certainly the comfiest... which will give me some solace when I'm NOT SEEING this in a few weeks

I unfortunately do not have an IMAX near me and therefore could not see it that way, but otherwise concur.

The Brutalist will be released digitally on February 25. The intermission will be included and that’ll surely also apply to the disc release.

It apparently got cut down to one minute for the screeners, so I imagine the same will apply on the home release.

Judging by the IFCO home classification and taking PAL speedup into account, that unfortunately seems to be the case.

"Unfortunately"? More like very fortunately. Who needs a 15-minute intermission on home video? That'd be absurd. If people need to take a break, just hit pause.

The intermission has a composition on it that'd be very unfortunate to cut out.
