How will this be released? Will it only be available through Anderson store?

I refused to buy the original UK Blu-Ray release because of that stupid 16:9 cropping, so got an import set (US I think). Now I think about it, I recall that the UK set had a really odd placement of the Kyrano figure on the front cover in a kind of background colouring, looming over the boys in the foreground - I always assumed that should have been a picture of The Hood. Those two things combined told me it was a pretty poor release.

I'll be in for the Anderson one tho. Never really got into the other puppet shows apart from TB, probably CS was the next best ... although I did enjoy The Secret Service when it came out, only saw that as an adult, so it was a different experience, but thought it was quite a amusing oddity.

The Protectors I would love too. But I understand that complete negatives no longer exist.
I’m sure with secret service it doesn’t need the big deluxe treatment with a fancy box and bonus physical tat. I’m sure it’s got its fans I’m not sure that show has the fan base to justify deluxe for that show. Just a 2-3 disc set with bonus features at about £25-£30 and it is done.

The protectors could still happen but with an ai upscale like the upcoming space precinct release . One of the comments asking on the thunderbirds trailer video if the thunderbirds remastering was in ai and they responded: “no. This is restored from the film material. We only use AI upscaling when the film is not available/destroyed and there are no other options.” I wouldn’t rule it out

If it is like the space precinct release it will be up for pre order exclusively on the Anderson site for a couple of months before the likes of Amazon hmv Zavvi etc start selling it.

There is FAQ coming out this week that is supposed to answer all our questions that we have for this release

If this comes out in it's OAR as is stated, I will definately buy this. I have held off getting the set in 16:9 purely because of that, and always hoped that one day, it would get released in it's OAR in the UK. If it gets a 4k release, that would be a bonus.

They did eventually fix that, and The Hood is indeed on the cover now.

However, it won't come as a surprise that it took quite a number of years for the original pressing to sell out before the fixed cover appeared in the wild...

Oh there is no “If”, it WILL be the OAR, they hammer that point home very clearly throughout the trailer lol

Though the cropping on the 16:9 set wasn't that bad since they moved the crop up and down.

Largely an irrelevance of course as it was still a crop, but as long as people understand that trailer is just using the centre crop as an example of how much image area you get back on the new one.

Never been a massive Thunderbirds fan (never owned it on physical media), and doubt I’ve seen all the episodes, but I’d definitely be up for a decent release to watch and enjoy it all.

Ah yea the crop shown in the trailers is not the same as what was on the ITV Blu-rays (I believe in some instances it even offered slightly more footage on the sides) but it was their intention to shout from the roof tops "look our release will be in the OAR" as that was the biggest criticism against the currently available release.

If I had to guess at a price I would say £79.99 with it being a fold out digi-pack with 8 or 9 discs.

Default The Secret Service

The Secret Service would be 2 discs at most with plenty of room on each disc for any extras.

The Protectors wouldn't need to be AI. Although I understand the negatives to be cut up there will be interpositives and prints to work from. Network showed that 16mm on blu ray can look absolutely stunning.

I hope also that, once they have done all the Anderson ITC stuff, they can expand their remit to other ITC classics now we no longer have Network.

FAQ is up.

https://gerryanderson.com/blogs/blog...dition-blu-ray

What is the source for the masters of these episodes?

The main master source for our Thunderbirds Blu-Ray is from the restorations from the Blu-Ray boxset released for the Japanese market in 2015. These restorations have been available to view on ITVX. However, we're aware of several errors within these restorations, which we're seeking to amend for our own release.

What soundtrack will be included?

The original mono soundtrack will be the default setting for this release, but it will also include the 5.1 mix from the early 2000s as an option.

Will the release include Thunderbirds Are Go and Thunderbird 6?

No - Thunderbirds Are Go and Thunderbird 6 are owned by MGM, but we are working to release these titles under the Anderson Entertainment banner.

Will the release include the Super Space Theatre compilation movies?

When you're trapped in the sky and ready to crash-dive into adventure, sometimes a rescue comes with a surprisingly sharper view...

What region will the Blu-Ray set be in?

Our Blu-Ray release will be ABC region free, enabling it to play worldwide.

Will it have subtitles?

Yes - our release will have English HOH subtitles. We're also looking into including subtitles in other languages.

Will it contain extras?

Yes! The boxset will contain a host of material from previous releases, as well as brand new extras produced exclusively for this release, making this the definitive home release of Thunderbirds. Full details on what these extras are will be announced at a later date.

Will it include the anniversary episodes?

Yes! We're thrilled that our Thunderbirds Blu-Ray will include the three anniversary episodes produced in 2015 by Century 21 Films on physical release for the first time in the UK.

What order will the episodes be presented in?

Our release will follow the production order, widely considered to be the 'proper' viewing experience of Thunderbirds. This order places City of Fire as episode 3 and Sun Probe as episode 4, and so on.

When will the set be available to pre-order?

The boxset will be available to pre-order later this year as we thunder towards the series' 60th anniversary in 2025. Sign up to our Thunderbirds mini-website to ensure you don't miss out on its release!

How much will the set be?

TBC. This release will be priced in line with our other home entertainment releases with similar runtimes. We're keen to make this release as accessible as possible.

Will there also be a 4K release of Thunderbirds?

Our Blu-Ray set will be the only way you can experience Thunderbirds restored in pristine HD, but stand by for further announcements in the year for further special assignments!

Be sure to sign up to our Thunderbirds' 60th anniversary page for all the latest news and announcements about our forthcoming Blu-Ray release, and further surprises that are preparing for blast off!

No regrets here having bought the Japanese set in late 2019, got to enjoy it the last 5 years and have just sold it for £50 so that will pay off a good chunk of the price of the new set.

FWIW, the Japan box set has extras that who knows if they'll be included in the 60th anniversary set.

The same can be said for some of us in America; we have a Launching Thunderbirds documentary on the Shout! release as well as the original publicity brochure via the BD-ROM (though they could be included, Shout!'s been known to allow their extras to be ported over for other company releases, US or otherwise).

I'm buying this set regardless (and the movies once available), it's no doubt going to be the BIGGEST release this show has gotten anywhere.

I suspect they will include as much from old releases as they can, certainly everything from the ITV DVDs and Blu-ray.

You gotta read the entire thing and translate to get anything approaching clear. I think them using the existing 4:3 HD masters suggests no 4K masters exist currently and they aren’t making any for this, so don’t expect a 4K any time soon.

They are aiming to fix some of the issues with those masters though which is promising.
