I bought SC remastered Blu-ray some time ago. I wasn't particularly happy with it, so I was gonna begrudgingly upgrade it to UHD version, but now I will wait and see. Additional extras and stereo track are tempting, but if LG edition won't improve in terms of picture, I don't see the point of importing it.

I also wonder if it opens a possibility for Eagle or Divisa releases down the line.

Something's definitely off in the colours on the SC 4K in a way that I find tricky to pinpoint. But parts of it do look quite nice. It's a film I've found myself re-watching more and more often over the last few years so would be tempted to buy if there's an appreciable overall improvement in the PQ on this new release.

I can live with the colors as long as DNR is gone. But sometimes it looks too much brown-pink and teal.

Nah, this will sure af be the same DNRd SC master, which IIRC was my major issue with this one as well. And which 2.0 (let alone one of these awful plastic slip steels) won't rescue.

It's partly that (to me) brown-red kind of tint that does looks a bit odd each time I view it.

Based on that interview on the Lionsgate Limited line and the work they’re doing, I can’t imagine they’d leave the SC master with its flaws intact. I’m certainly hoping they aren’t just repackaging an old master including things like DNR. That’d be a bad call. They’re otherwise doing good work, and I’m not a huge fan of steels either, but they’re developing a sharp house style with the creative layering of clear sleeve and interior art. Basic Instinct is a favorite film, but I won’t purchase this if it’s a flawed older master.

It's great that they went to the effort of including the Dolby Stereo track, but please keep in mind Basic Instinct did have a discrete digital mix released.

As Geoff mentioned, maybe the way LG takes a little off makes it a more consistent viewing experience vs SC, but we're more than likely stuck with the jacked up color timing. Sadly, I wonder if Verhoeven's ability to see color was deteriorating as happened with Friedkin.

People who think that this won't be the exact same SC (DNRd) master really must be somewhat delusional. I mean it even literally says it's the same old SC restoration supervised by the man already. It's SC/Lionsgate. People really think Lionsgate, who just surprised us with the "awesome" Kill Bill releases supervised by the other man, will release anything else than what's on the SC? Except for another encode? Well. Best of luck.

Heck, "...supervised by Director Paul Verhoeven" reads like a disclaimer to me really.

Shame. Film- maker's deteriorating faculties impact 4K restoration. Again. Mind, I do wonder if it's more the display technology we have now, what the film-maker sees versus what punters see on display panels of varying quality. Some folks have the settings on 'Vivid' for goodness sake.

Of course this is announced 2 weeks after I purchase the UK edition. (You're welcome everyone!) Oh well, I still paid less than this steelbook costs and I'm not concerned with the "new" extras that are being included.

Are these actually limited...and are they chased with standard editions?

How do the SC blus fare over the 4Ks in terms of compression?

They are only sold on Lionsgate Limited's site. So that's the limited part. The good thing is you can see how much stock they have of an item so you can wait to order if youd like.

The only ones I know that are available as standard editions are the Tarantino films.

Are you buying or did you buy anything anyway? Or are you just looking for discs coming without OG audio, so you don't have to buy anything? Serious question. Because my impression is the latter.

I was in high school just shy of 16 when I saw this in the theater with my late older brother. He got me in to see the movie as he was 4 years older. Of course, I had to tell everyone else at school that I had seen it. My brother and I saw a lot of movies together. I really miss him. He passed in 2020. Sorry if this was off topic but the movie just reminded me of all the movies I saw with my brother.
