Wait for 2 more items to get free shipping from Orbit, or wait to add a 13+ dollar item for free shipping from Atomic.

I'll have to dig up my BD, but as I recall the color grade was untouched. The big issues were that only the new footage was sourced from a new master and the BD uses seamless branching. So the DC would look great and crappy from shot to shot. It was very jarring.

Another issue is that the DC uses temp audio for certain scenes (i.e. Connelly singing, Hurt playing the accordion, and the poor-turned-rich couple during the big tuning sequence). The quality of said acting and singing/playing was notably inferior to that of the TC. However, the DC is still the superior cut of the movie.

Didn't Proyas say at some point he preferred Jennifer Connelly's voice take over the more polished theatrical edit or am I misremembering something?

if you're referring to the initial theatrical cut DVD, I highly doubt that's remotely theatrically accurate considering that was a DVD dating as far back as 1999

not saying that the BD represents a theatrically accurate grade either, but don't ever think that the theatrical cut DVD represents how it looked theatrically

The BD didn't have both cuts branched, it was literally two entirely separate files. (and the fact that capsaholic has both cuts as a separate set of caps proves this) That BD looked terrible all around due to the heavy amount of DNR in every scene in both cuts.

I highly disagree regarding Connelly's singing, I think restoring her voice was a very smart decision. Anita Kelsey's voice isn't bad, but it isn't as good as Connely's and definitely isn't as fitting either. I'd say using Kelsey's voice in the theatrical cut is actually more jarring cause you're hearing a completely different voice compared to the non-singing scenes.

I must have misremembered then, I’ve got the German BD of the TC and for some reason had thought the reason I had this rather than the US release with both cuts was a revised colour grade (that I thought I didn’t like the look of) but having checked the caps just now I see it’s indeed identical between the two. I guess it will have been the fact that…:

is what made me go for the German disc if it doesn’t have DNR (I can’t remember and I’ve never watched it)

Thanks but no, was not thinking of the DVD, have never seen it
[Show spoiler](or any disc/digital version of the film at all, only seen it once which was actually via an old 35mm release print a year or two ago)
I was just completely misremembering what I thought was up with previous BD releases

The German BD was the same master pre-DNR yes, but I didn't get it only because it didn't have the director's cut, only the theatrical cut

Does he have to say it out loud.. Since it's a change he made for the director's cut, it's obvious he decided he preferred it.

Hate the artwork on this one. I've never seen the Director's Cut before so I'm psyched to experience it for the first time in 4K with Atmos.

You're likely right, but it's not always the case. The scenes of her singing are longer in the DC (and there's even an extra song in the DC). It's likely the singer of the TC was hired after the edits were made.

It also reminds me of the DC of King Arthur. Antoine Fuqua stated he prefers the ending featured in the deleted scenes, but did not use the ending in his DC of said movie. Or how Ridley Scott restored the footage of implied lesbian romance from Alien only to choose at the 11th hour to exclude the footage when assembling his "director's cut" (I put that in quotes because he's gone back and forth with regards to it being merely a SE or a DC) for the Alien Quadrilogy set. Sometimes, weird stuff just happens.

However, I do vaguely recall Proyas stating he prefers Connelly singing because it adds to the feeling that she is simply doing what she was programmed to do, rather than her genuinely wanting to be a singer. But I don't recall if that was always his intent of merely how he felt after assembling the DC of Dark City.

The what now? I thought I knew pretty much everything about Alien, but this was news to me. Can you elaborate?

Basically, Ridley Scott felt "casual relationships" would develop during long deep space missions. And so he shot scenes that implied that Ripley and Lambert were in a lesbian relationship. It's extremely subtle however (a touch here and there that could easily be interpreted as merely comforting).

Ah ok. It also adds to the tension between them once things start to go to hell.

I like a lot of Arrow Covers, but this one is boring mediocre pseudo-comic-style art.

I think he said it was more in-line with the story because the Character is new to singing at that point and not very good. But I love the Theatrical version of the song.
