Swords and sorcery movies are fun. Of course I like The Beastmaster and Conan the Barbarian. But is Beastmaster a better film than Conan? No. No way. Arnie and James Earl Jones are iconic in their roles. Beastmaster doesn't get to that level.

I get that there are some people who will say Piranha II is better than The Terminator, but there is not one aspect of Beastmaster that does anything better than the first Conan film for me.

I think it's just a funner film. Beastmaster. Conan is an outstanding film, but I don't have any warmth toward it. It is technically better made and all that. I don't think it is as fun though.

Agreed 100%. The Beastmaster is Conan with warmth and heart. Conan’s fatal flaw is that it’s missing Kodo & Podo.

It did. This is basically the VS release except the 5.1 is now lossless.

It states "Theatrical Cut" but I'm sure they meant the uncensored Director's Cut (with the nudity intact), the runtime even makes that clear.

Just for curiosity sake, here's a comparison between the Theatrical and Director's Cuts:

I'm just surprised Scream couldn't also get this included considering they have a deal with MGM too (who may own that version).

Oh, okay. I had checked the database and was looking at the top of the VS to see if it mentioned 2 cuts, but didn't, so I wasn't sure.

This is one of those situations where the alternate “cut” included is the exact same cut, just some of the more iffy special effects have been redone. It’s largely really subtle stuff also, kind of like all the tweaks Cameron has made to Titanic but not nearly as many adjustments as that, but the camera shots and movie as a whole is identical.

Ah okay, thanks. I've never seen the movie, and was unfamiliar with its release history, etc..

Pretty sure the US theatrical cut was the full 118-minute version (amazing what you could get into a PG-rated film back then).

It says the 90-minute-or-so cut was taken from a German DVD, so maybe that was the German theatrical version?

The Beastmaster may have one of the greatest scenes in movie history. So happy they got that scene in.
