When Disney was in its pre Little Mermaid malaise, nobody really gave a shit. The studio re-released a classic every year. And all their new stuff was dependably dumb and inoffensive but largely unwatched. That was Disney. Don't remember all the hand-wringing that goes on today, with supposedly disinterested commentators seemingly addicted to talking non-stop about Disney's "doom".

It's perhaps the "Disney is doomed" remora business that is growing. While, as parasitic logic might dictate, the Disney business itself is seemingly doing as well as it ever has.

They'll be fine if just due to their sheer size and diverse holdings. I cannot believe anyone watches ESPN any longer. Its become the socially-conscious sports network these days. Used to be cool and like catered to actual sports fans. Now, they cater to... ummm... not really sure.

Star Wars still generates revenue despite being over exposed & over-done.

The parks still manage to sucker families into going there, some go every year.

I dont want to see them go. It cant be good for us if they do. I would like them to keep supporting disc releases and giving us catalog titles in 4K which they've been pretty decent about. All the star wars shows seem to get disc releases. Thats good. A lot of their Fox catalog has also come out in 4K. Also good.

Disney owning so much now can only be a bad thing for movie fans and creativity in general. How can you can such a high percentage of popular properties under the creative decisions of a single entity and it not be a bad thing? The more studios there are, the more varying visions there are.

Disney own 20th Century and the two movies to come out of the studio I’ve loved. Not liked, LOVED. Prey and KoK.

Um, OK. That's great. I'm not sure how that negates my point? I just posted this in the unpopular thread which kind of sums up how I feel about them right now.

For me Disney is the same as any other movie studio in that I would rather support them making a unique, original concept that puts story and characters first and have it fail than watch a money making machine try its hardest to create something using algorithms and political trends of the day.

Disney are the absolute worst for that currently. Its just an unrelenting conveyer belt of mediocrity now. Disney used to be built on magic. The only thing magical left using the name is those beautiful interactions you see online of the young kids dressed up as their favourite characters interacting with the characters in the parks. Its a tiny glimpse of what Disney was built on and for. Unfortunately those moments are buried under the political machine that it has become.

Full list of Walt Disney Pictures releases 2024:

Witness the unstoppable juggernaut of political machinery!

The Beach Boys (documentary)
The Young Woman And The Sea
Inside Out 2
Moana 2
Mufasa

It's just a relentless meatgrinder of politics. You go to a Disney movie and you're pulling loose politics out of your pockets and out of your hair for days. It's like someone sets off a political glitter bomb right in your face when you walk into the theater.

I agree with the conveyor belt statement. They are cranking out content and a lot of it is barely mediocre. Plenty of milking going on but they feel that’s safe for them I guess. Not very much new or creative stuff as of late. It’s sequels, live action redos, reboots, prequels and all that.

Your other post mentioned how them owning a lot of content could be bad and I do agree somewhat. However, it’s how that content gets treated and what they do with it that matters the most. I’ve actually been fairly happy with the 4K releases of various catalog titles that they own. They are producing discs which for me is important. But, no doubt one studio owning too much can be a recipe for consumer disaster.

Disney must be relying on the algorithm that analyses how much people who claim to be uninterested in sequels and remakes actually talk about them, in contrast with Disney and non-Disney originals, and tend to make them only topic on the agenda.

i have not seen a lot of complaints about Warner scooping up Village Roadshow on the cheap. Or the rumor that Sony could absorb half of Warner. The vultures are also circling Lionsgate. Warner has a pretty massive catalog and Universal is not far behind. Pretty much silence compared to the constant Disney owns to much posts.

Take a look at Bluhouse's catalog, they just added Saw.

Sure, the live-action remake of "Lilo and Stitch" is doing well, but that's the only good news coming out of Disney right now.

And I think things will only get worse for Disney. I think "Toy Story 5" is going to be a failure. The storyline is that the toys are coping with kids ignoring them because of their smartphones. I find it impossible to feel any sympathy for the toys in this scenario. The toys are capable of talking and moving around and having their own adventures without any human assistance, but they keep their abilities secret from the humans, and they wonder why the humans who own them are ignoring them? The solution is too simple. All the toys need to do is what they did at the end of the original "Toy Story" in front of Sid. Come to life in front of Bonnie. Show Bonnie what they can do and then they'll earn Bonnie's respect. In "Sesame Street", the Muppet characters and humans have toys that are sentient, living entities, and everyone's okay with that. Let me give you an example. Here's a Sesame Street episode with a ball that talks to Abby and Elmo:

Elmo and Abby’s Morning Routine | Sesame Street Full Episode - YouTube

See? Now you know how "Toy Story 5" will end.

Is Disney doomed to fade into irrelevancy or worse, to go out of business? And if not, how can Disney can be saved? Please let me know what you think. Have a nice day.
You really need to stop making threads.

Are Disney Parks doomed? As long as people are willing to spend $3000 to $5000 on a week's vacation to Disney World and Land, I think they'll do well in the long term...

Although I'm not a fan of their strategy to overcharge customers to ridiculous amounts for food, drinks, hotels, transport, park entrance fees, parking (this is what the admittance used to cost but now costs that much just to park your vehicle), souvenirs in the gift shops, etc. It's not all rip off prices, but most of it is unfortunately compared to past years when Disney was more reasonably priced.

I've been to Disney parks 5 times total in a lifetime, and I think I'm more than satisfied that I've seen all I want to see at them in terms of rides and entertainment. They're neat places, but the price is excessive and I won't be going again if I can help it. I don't think it's worth the price other than for maybe 1 day there .

The same could be said for Six Flags and other expensive Amusement Parks, charging $100+ per person to stand in lines most of the day in the sun, waiting to go on a ride.

Best to go during slower seasons, maybe when the weather isn't that ideal. Look for soda can deals at grocery stores promoting the parks, or go during the slow seasons with research, versus the prime times.

I hear Future Land is getting renovated at Disney World. Space Mountain is a good roller coaster if you like roller coasters in the darkness. I haven't been on the new Tron Ride.

I think my favorite types of rides are the educational historical ones, like Epcot Center's giant golf ball. And going to see the different European and Asian Countries all in one lake area is probably the closest thing to visiting other countries without the hassle of flying across an ocean in a heavy jet made of metal.

Plus now all flights require either a Passport or special Permit card to fly in the US as of 2025, even if it's state to state.
