Note: When George says they used the bridges they “could find” he means within Warner’s Film Collection. Anything you’ve see elsewhere but not on this BD is probably from another collection, even a few on the Huck DVD. It would be nice if all of them existed in the masters, but if it means the quality will be mostly consistent I am OKAY with that. Looking forward to the set

Weird that Earl Kress wasn’t namedropped, but likely George is following policy since he almost never names any BTS people

George says that the Huck DVD sold well (even though Earl Kress said it didn't), and that music rights issues kept the rest of the series off of DVD.

I don't know what to believe. I've heard so many insiders say music rights was an issue for Huck and other insiders say it wasn't.

Strumm makes it sounds like the bridges won't be anything that wasn't aired on MeTV Toons.

That's a bummer. If Warner had access to bridges in 16mm, even if faded color or in black and white, they should have used them. Particularly since the Magilla Gorilla curtain call came from a private collector's 16mm.

To be fair... Strumm didn't really say that only the bumpers that aired on METV Toons is gonna be in this set. At the very least, colour bumpers like the Matador Huck opening, Huckleberry Hound and Yogi playing tennis and all the other remaining colour bumpers on the old DVD would have to be restored on the Blu-ray.

Most of the Remaining Colour Bumpers on that DVD are in High Quality and it's in WB's collection as well. I can kind of understand the black and white bumpers not being utilized however.

Warner Bros. doesn't own the rights to Chilly Willy, Universal Studios does and all the Walter Lantz shorts (with the exception of a period in 1948-49 where it is distributed by United Artists) are released by them.

Just to clear up any confusion.

Just for the record, Universal also owns all the Lantz shorts released by United Artists.

I'm just saying though; of Kino Lorber didn't give up on animation, we'd have Lantz sets by now.

Indeed, Universal Studios owns those shorts as well.

Shouldn't the blame go to Universal for having nothing but pretty bad HD or SD masters for the Lantz shorts?

Yeah but if Kino sublicensed them, they would've done new HD restorations.

There are MeTV HD Restorations of many Lantz Cartoons (mostly late 1950's onwards) that begun airing in 2023, with a early 1950's Woody Woodpecker (Woodpecker in the Rough) re-restored among them and those look pretty great. Too bad there isn't a physical release of these versions of the shorts.

I would also like to see a Lantz cartoon collection sometime, in the style of the Collector's Choice series.

I was wondering how selective the chaptering would be on this release for just that reason of being able to skip the intro and repeated bits. I'm glad they thought of that. Great news!

Any elements on the DVD that were in B&W weren't from Warners' collection I should note. Most of them are second generation VHS transfers Earl Kress borrowed from friends and collectors to try and get them on. Again, they don't have many bumpers, though I applaud them for doing the best they can given a desire for quality

I went ahead and ordered my copy from Gruv. I’m super excited by the release and don’t mind the price for the content. I always preorder animation instead of waiting for a sale just to help Warner Archive keep the animation titles coming!
Up next I’m expecting Yogi Bear Show and maybe Quick Draw next year once it finally airs on MeTV Toons
