I'm not saying who's right or wrong, I just make it a policy to never get into online arguments. And this has clearly gone past the "discussion" phase. ;-) |

and me personally. Your attack was couched in polite language but it was persistent. Get this cold hard fact into your head: Neo-Noir is NOT the exact same thing as Film Noir. There are significant differences. All the authorities support this fact. Try reading a book by one of the authorities cited in the OP. They're on my side. Your position has been refuted and disproved. You should know, you're doing the harassing. It is not harassment to defend oneself nor debate a point. To constantly ignore the basic fact that Neo-Noir is different from Film Noir, to ignore the evidence of it and the scholarship for it in cited works on film history, is just ignorance. To attack the validity of this thread and to repeatedly put down the member who started the thread in good faith is harassment. You're a thread crapper NuXiaolin. You contribute nothing. You demonstrate no knowledge or appreciation of noir films. You don't discuss neo-noir, you just come in here to crap on the thread. |

In last night's chat at the Film Noir Foundation, Eddie Muller referred to an evening of
screenings he hosted called "Noir or Not?" He remarked that some films cross genres but share a noir vibe that was prevalent at the time. He gave several examples and included two films that he said are hard to define, Chaplin's Monsieur Verdoux (1947) and Sturges' Unfaithfully Yours (1948). He said what they have in common is the noir vibe. They may be other things before they are noir, but they are also noir. He said he's not one for labeling, that when he watches these films he doesn't see the genre label but he feels the noir vibe. He singled out Don Siegel's Hell Is for Heroes (1962) as a war film that is also a film noir. ![]() Starts at about 35 minutes in: Last edited by Richard--W; 09-20-2025 at 02:33 AM. |

You're the joke. You've been sniping my posts and harassing my threads
since I joined years ago. You're a chronic and habitual thread crapper with a documented history of sniping and thread crapping. If you don't like this thread, keep out. You don't contribute anything. |

Arsenal (2017) ![]() Arsenal brings back Nic Cage's character from Deadfall, but it's a generic straight-to-video crime movie with none of the neo noir elements of the original and none of the "charm." (Even though Deadfall is bad, it's entertaining.) It's only considered a sequel because Cage plays the same character, and there's a Christopher Coppola cameo (he directed the first movie). Otherwise, they're unrelated. |

![]() "Twenty years after the events of the novel "THE MALTESE FALCON", Sam Spade has retired in the small town of Bozouls in the South of France. It's 1963, the war has ended, and in a very short time, so, too, will Spade's tranquility." I just finished episode 2 and I'm loving it. Clive Owen is remarkable. His physicality and countenance evokes Bogart without mimicking him. This actor feels his business with quiet intensity. A lot of thought and planning went into recreating Sam Spade and continuing his story in a way that makes sense. The dialogue is seriously good, and I like how the story gradually escalates into the world of noir. Monsieur Spade is a European noir in the best sense. An outstanding program. I want this on blu-ray. Monsieur Spade (2024) |
