Not to pile on, but if the book's not decent quality, I'm going to put it on blast too.

The standard is $10 cheaper - so if the price is to include the slipcase and book, they gotta step up at that game. We'll see.

Ultimately, the most important thing for me is the high quality scans of the films. However, mistakes on the packaging should not be ignored. I believe the Pink Line will be successful, but I think quality control on overall product(s) should be looked into before eventual release(s).

I agree with all of this. I doubt it’s possible to get a new artwork done before release, but maybe it’s possible to have a new run made of the original package design, but with the letters spelling Satō filled in solid black. Would still look sharp in my opinion and would fix the issue.

Yeah, the die is cast as far as this edition.

In the scheme of things, like was said, it doesn't really matter as long as the movies look as good as possible. But jeez - just make a screen-grab rather than downloading off a bad Google search. Come on guys.

Totally. The restorations are the most important thing to me. The error with the packaging is disappointing but also not the end of the world.

Just noticed on the back of the slipcase that the first box has an image from Yamanouchi’s Muzan-E aka Celluloid Nightmares. I can totally see how the mistake happened, but sadly, the errors continue on the back. C’est la vie

Yikes. There’s images of Hisayasu Satô films all over the box that’s not included in the release, most notably Pervert Ward S&M Clinic being on the front of the box, the third image on the back of the box, and the front design of the slipcase all having the face of Kiyomi Itō from the film. That film not being in the set had me confused for a bit, but I was chalking it up as this is what all the sets will look like. But with the Yamanouchi stuff too, strange indeed.

I’m hoping at least Pervert Ward S&M Clinic will be in volume 2, as the most striking images of this box set is from that movie lol

It is pretty yikes, but mistakes happen. I haven’t lost one ounce of enthusiasm for this new line. Just getting my hands on quality upgrades for these films is that important to me.

I love that Satō was heavily involved with this release. I’m thinking these releases will be definitive.

I'm into extreme cinema and Japanese films, but Sex & Fury is the only pinku eiga I've seen. Got the Terrifying Girls High School quadrilogy queued up for October/November and will pick up the Pink Line as well. The trailer is what hooked me. Looking forward to this journey, off to a great start.

Seems like there would be a licensing issue due to using a different film's art on the box.

you're describing pinky violence and comparing them to pink films. apples and oranges.

From Justin over on Reddit:

Quote:
I produced this set and am mortified by the mistakes here. I do not take it lightly. I spent years working on this and, rather unfortunately, was not the primary party working on the design component here.

This is absolutely being addressed with the designer and discussed internally. All design materials were approved by the Japanese licensor as well as Satô himself, which makes things more complicated and confusing.

Trust me, I want this to be right. The concerns are more than heard and I’m putting in every safeguard I can think of to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

That's a fair response.

We know how this goes - Sato looked at the art and was like "okay, sure" because he trusted the distributor, and the distributor doesn't know about movies from 40 years ago so they trust the artist, and the artist doesn't doublecheck the images because they trust VS, and VS trusted Sato. And what we've got here is failure to communicate.

If this was the fifth release, okay, just a blunder. But the debut is where someone's OCD should kick in to triple-check it all.

I hope it is a reset going forward, as far as how they approach the physical parts of the releases. It isn't just this ONE slipcase of ONE release that is a problem. The books have flaws too, etc. That extra effort would filter thru the whole process, I'm sure.

Wait...what? Admitting a mistake publicly and feeling relatable bad about it because of their deep involvement and passion in this project, while both promising to fix this and make sure it doesn't happen in the future?
Thought these type of people went extinct some time ago.

^ I don't read that response as 'promising to fix this', but rather trying to avoid it happening again in the future.

Lest we forget they never fixed the two-page photo of a totally different movie in the mediabook for the debut CIN release Little Darlings (which you can still see on the site here)

I remember Paramount supplying them with an incorrect photo in that situation.

I remember that being said, but it was still approved and printed. If Paramount had supplied a still from Spongebob, would they have shrugged and gone with it?

Not gonna lie, this made my day.
And regarding the Sato-set, yeah maybe I read too much into it, we'll see what happens.
