Should Paramount release The Godfather and The Godfather Part II fully restored on Blu-ray by Christmas, I will forget all the crap they pulled in the last 12 months and let bygones be bygones. (I still prefer to believe that the Godfather III was never made.)

If I can get I and II on blu-ray I wouldn't even mind having to buy III because it's part of a pack. Certainly won't buy the DVD version even if blu isn't announced. They'll have to bring it out on blu sometime. Right?!

Didn't he do commentary tracks for all three films on the S-DVD release a few years ago?

There was a wee bit of controversey about the new Foley tracks in "Vertigo" (someone correct me but I think they no longer existed and they had to create new ones) -- but you're right. He'll do the best job possible within the budget allowed.

As far as I am concerned, the studios should just put $20 million in a trust each year and allow Robert Harris to restore any damn thing he wants. What a gift that would be to themselves and to all of us. Kudos to Steven Spielberg for hiring Robert Harris to save The Godfather.

For those interested, the newest issue of American Cinematographer has a lengthy article (with pictures) on the restoration.
