I have several friends with iphones and have researched then extensively and I decided it is not for me. My opinion of the iPhone is very similar to the iPod. They have really really cool click interfaces on it, but when you get down to the final feature set the are lacking in certain areas. The MP3 players I use have many more features build around audio then the iPods do. For my phone, I use a Windows Mobile phone which allows lots of third party apps to be loaded (though I hear apple is finally allowing that), supports the higher Speed EVDO network (and is upgradable to the next rev of EVDO) and several other things.

The iPod and the iPhone and both great devices, but when I compare the underlying features to the features I want they do not match what I am looking for. I'd rather have an interface that isn't quite as slick, but that has more bells and whistles under the hood.

That is just my 2 cents.

The 2.0 software update will address a lot of issues most people have with the iPhone, including the lack of third party applications. It should make it a viable option for those who need some heavy business applications, coupled with a personal device that has all of the other standard iPod features. I use the web browser quite a bit and have used both Blackberry (decent with Opera Mini) and Internet Explorer Mobile (horrendous) and the iPhone absolutely slaughters any mobile web browser out there.

I just bought a new phone 4 months back so this doesn't help me, but next time I'm looking I'll give it another look and see if they have addressed the issues I had with it when it came out. At a minimum they would have to offer more then EDGE (I use data more then voice so want the best speed I can get) and hopefully offer something other then AT&T (another negative in my book). I'm still not sure I could get used to a non-tactile keyboard. The normal keyboard is nice for texting without having to watch the keys - not sure how well I could do that on an iphone.

This was somewhat a - for me as well, but honestly it takes all of about a week and I'm flying through that keyboard. There is definately a learning curve with it but it rewards you in the end. The predictive text is also something to get use to (for me anyways) but works great once accustomed to.

I was pleasantly suprised that EDGE is not as slow as I thought, it is not 3G but 3G isnt offered in all locations anyway. Since the iPhone's release more and more wifi spots have been available so makes network data speeds moot.

As far as AT&T where I live (SW Florida) it is to me by far the best coverage. I have had Sprint, parents Verizon and T-Mobile, girlfriend Alltel and Sprint and Alltel by far have the worse coverage. Verizon is ok but suffers from the echo effect.

Too big and bulky.. reminds me of a Dodge Charger (N95) compared to an Audi R8 (iPhone).

I love how manufacturers are targeting the iPhone like mad lol.

It will most likely release in June; when iPhone 2.0 firmware and the iTunes App Store launches.

According to macrumors.com a 3G iPhone is complete and is scheduled for release in only Italy so far but that will change (I hope). PS3 and the iPhone are the best CE devices in their respective markets and the joining of the two is the best idea in the CE world since bluray was announced. Not to mention VOIP on the iPhone and iPod Touch....
