Begins is the better movie , It's the type of movie that could be nominated for an Oscar, it takes time to tell a great story, Iron Man is the type of movie considered a popcorn flick (though I think it does tell a great story and is not just another popcorn flick). This was the start of Iron Man, like Batman Begins, but Begins spends more time showing Bruce from child grow up and really get's into his transformation, as to Iron Man , just as soon as he knows he about to get killed, he thinks to build a suit, then decides to protect the people. But in Begins, people train him to fight, stay invisible,he spends more time on the idea of his suit, and his reason for fighting is more serious, it's just more in depth, so yeah it is a little slower but it pay's off with more knowledge of the character. That's why Begins is the better movie . I do love Iron Man and will buy when it comes to Blu, but if you ask which is the better movie, Batman Begins wins it, but for all you people who just want a 90 min. long movie just full of action ,dont care for a real story ,and you dont want to have to think, you may not like Begins.

Iron Man was just more fun to watch than Batman Begins. The humor is top notch, action scenes are amazing, and Robert Downey Jr. is perfect as Tony Stark.

Plus Iron Man had one of the coolest scenes of all time. Where he scans the enemies holding civilians at gun point and then targets and kills them with mini rockets out of his shoulder. Everyone in the theater was blown away.

Let's wait to see the Dark Knight, and then we can compare those two.

Of course I think The Dark Knight has potential to really run up the box office.Mostly because the Joker is one of the coolest bad guys ever.

But The Dark Knight is a sequel so we will have to wait to compare that to Iron Man 2.

Right now thou it seems like everyone has Iron Man fever and I'm loving it.

It is great to see comic book movies do so well. It means we will get more of them. Hopefully they are taking note to what and why we respond so well to them and continue making good ones.

DC or Marvel I love em both!

Long live the comics! Long live the fans that help them continue on.

Iron Man replacing Batman is kind of a dumb topic. Who said Batman was on top in the first place? Hell, I still find Spider-Man, and Spider-Man 2 to be my favorites. Why should this even be a discussion? I guess we all have or favorites. Some of our hero's have had some bad outings on the big screen . Some have nailed it. Either way no one majority of people has declared Batman to be the best nor any other character. If the topic was who is your favorite comic character or what is your favorite comic book turned movie, that would have made more sense.

Batman and Iron Man can continue on equally in my opinion. One does not replace the other.
Well said Darko Common sense all the way

I was never a real big comic book fan as a kid, so I am speaking only as an action movie lover. I don't know exactly whats been changed to make work on the big screen between either BB or IM. But after watching Iron Man this morning, I have to say I like it ten-fold over Batman Begins. Iron Man just didn't seem to suffer the same dull parts that every "origin" movie suffers. At this moment in time, I would have to say that Iron Man is my favorite Superhero movie since seeing Superman 2 with my dad back in the 70's.

Batman Begins had almost zero marketing....I didn't even know it was out until a week after being in theaters..

plus everyone soured on Batman after Batman & Robin...so the interest dropped off...

Iron Man has all sorts of marketing and the commercials playing during the NBA Playoff games among many other TV shows...

serious money has been invested in advertising for Iron Man....and Batman Begins had very little advertising/promotion...

The Dark Knight, on the other hand has as much if not more advertisement as Iron Man...so that will be a closer comparison..

Just saw Iron Man... boy, that was the most fun I've had at the movies in a while. I encourage everyone to check it out. I love Batman Begins too! So I went with a tie. They're both great!!

I can't wait for the Incredible Hulk and The Dark Knight!!

I was going to say that. Some people had second thoughts on this movie because of that one

You're way off on saying BB was not marketed aggressively. According to this that I found Warner (back in 05) were expecting to pay $100 million worldwide for marketing.

Quote:
The next Batman project, due out in June, shows how international home video sales are altering the budget calculations of some blockbuster movies. Mr. Roven was able to get a budget, according to an executive at Time Warner who spoke on condition of anonymity, of more than $180 million, based on the expectation of high home video sales in the United States and abroad. The executive also estimates that the film's worldwide marketing budget may exceed $100 million.

how much marketing has Iron Man pushed worldwide?...

and where was the marketing?... I live in one of the major markets in the US and I saw very little promotion done for this movie..

edit: as I re-read that..."may exceed 100 million"...do you have the exact number for both movies?...

Most marketing for summer blockbuster movies is usually anywhere from $30 to $50 million. You can find this information at boxofficeguru.com. Superman Returns had a $50 million marketing budget The more I read about the marketing for BB the more I find that it was very large. I'm still looking for a more exact quote, but marketing budgets are just estimates.

Okay, I knew it had to be out there (google is your friend )

Here is an article about Movies and the Media. Source

What is surprising, though, is how much some studios lavished on individual pictures in 2005. In addition to "Cinderella Man" and "Zathura," big spenders included Paramount's "War of the Worlds" ($46.5 million) and

"The Longest Yard" ($44.6 million), Warners' "Batman Begins" ($44.4 million), Buena Vista's "Chicken Little" ($42.9 million), Fox's "Robots" ($41.4 million), DreamWorks' "Madagascar" ($40.7 million) and Buena Vista's "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe" ($40 million).
Batman had over 15 One sheets, they had an aggressive Internet takeover campaign (when these ads were new). It also had an amazing 17 trailers and TV spots!

To answer your question about Iron Man, it let YouTube do most of it's marketing which is very cheap. There were TV spots (as all Summer blockbusters rely on) but most of the marketing were Internet sites linking the new spots on YouTube.

Batman Begins is a better movie at the end of the day, but Iron Man was a fantastic movie and gives real hope to the future of Marvel made movies. Iron Man is Marvel getting back on track, the same way DC is on track with Batman (Marvel having strayed with Spidey 3 and X-3, DC having strayed -arguably- with Superman).

Frankly I couldn't be happier knowing that movie studios have finally made the connection b/w treating super hero movies with respect and making millions off all the now adults that grew up with them.

funny when i left the theater after iron man, i told my friends this is better then all spidermans, but equal with batman begins.

batman begins was awesome, but it did have its slow and boring parts. i honestly always skip through the parts when hes training in asia with liam nelson. i would love if i could just erase that first 45 minutes or so, and just have the movie start when bruce is in a plane with alfred, returning to gotham.

1. predicting http://www.whysoserious.com/happytrails/trailer.htm
2. Iron man
3. Batman Begins
4. Spiderman 2

for me both were really good. i don't know that much about iron man so i did not have great expectations for it so i was pleased with how good it was. i just think that they are too different styles of movies. for me they are pretty much equal at this point. what i want to see is how the sequels will progress the story. if you look at the past trilogies like the first batman, spiderman, x-men... the first was good, the second was good (if not better) and then they go off and totally ruin the series with the third and so on. they do it by adding more heros more villians until it's just too much and you get batman and robin.

if i look at the two movies, iron man to me has the potential to go down that road. it had the same feel as spiderman when it came out. plus the fact that supposedly robert downey jr is making a cameo in the new hulk movie as tony stark so that could open the door to a combo hulk/iron man movie.

so for now i give the edge to batman begins because it was different from pretty much all the other comic book movies that have come out in the last 8 years. i think from what i have seen from christopher nolan's movies i think that he is wanting to get deeper into the story rather than just recreate the comic book on screen.

I had this very same discussion with my buddy as soon as we walked outta the theater! We both had Batman Begins slightly ahead of Iron Man but Iron Man is right up there nipping at its heels. I knew nadda about Iron Man going into that movie and it blew me away how awesome it was. Now just waiting for some Indy action and then Dark Knight! Iron Man was definately the kick as* movie needed to get the summer rolling!
