We're ten days away from it's actual 10th anniversary as it was released on the 18th

No worries. I wasn't sure if it was the 8th or 18th, either. So I had to check myself

Probably not much of an upgrade, considering it wasn't shot in 4k but I'm fine with that. The idea is that it was shot on a non-professional digital camera, so why should it look like it was shot in 4k ? It still looks pretty good.

I read a long time ago that movies that were shot in that way may not fare well in the conversion to 4k and beyond. I am not waiting for a 4k upgrade as the 1080p one looks great for being shot at night.

I've been a fan of giant monsters my entire life. And I love Cloverfield. It was the first post-9/11 monster attack film, and it really benefited from incorporating some of that imagery, realism, and street-level POV. It might be my third favorite American kaiju film, after the 1933 and 2017 Kong films.

I was sooo pissed when 10 Cloverfield Lane turned out to not be a sequel. With just a few simple changes, it could have been.

I always found this to be quite the clever combination of giant monster movie and post-9/11 fears. Thought it was a nice touch that a viewer doesn't hear any film music until the end credits; and when the music does kick in, it sounds like the score to a Japanese monster movie. Running a brisk 85 minutes, it doesn't overstay its welcome...and features the always delightful Lizzy Caplan.

Happy Birthday, Cloverfield!

Wow - it's hard to believe it's been ten years since Cloverfield first came out. I remember seeing this in the theater when it was released, and being extremely impressed. The film was a genuinely well-done & thrilling monster film. It was obviously in the vein of Godzilla & older B-films - but with some added "twists", i.e. the little creatures that "lived" on the huge creature but were still deadly in and of themselves, etc.

The intentional POV/documentary-style filming IMHO made the movie more effective - and, though intentionally claustrophobic at times - worked well for me. I don't think POV-filmed movies work well in every case, but it did work re: Cloverfield.

The "money shot" at the end was great, i.e. showing the entire monster in all it's horrific glory.

My favorite giant monster movie of all time, so realistic...unlike Godzilla 2014.

Yes, because Godzilla movies are supposed to be realistic.

I still remember seeing the trailer for it before the first Transformers movie.

And then of course seeing the movie. I remember I didn’t really quite know what to think of it when I first saw it. But the more I thought about it, the more I REALLY loved it. Such a cool idea.

It’s the kind of movie that, even though I really love it, I try not to watch it TOO much lol.

It's probably the best found footage movie I've ever seen. I'm not a huge fan of found footage movies (or J.J. Abrams), but this was very clever and very realistic. Still holds up 10 years later. I loved how during the initial attack, you only saw a brief glimpse of something moving as a building came tumbling down. Too often in CGI dominated movies they make the mistake of showing too much.

Isn't the Cloverfield creature supposed to be an alien? Godzilla would be terrestrial. Besides, Godzilla would kick Cloverfield creature's a$$ from here to Mars

Many people, if they make them with a realistic feel then it adds to the enjoyment. You can have a fake rubber Godzilla suit crushing cardboard buildings and toy cars, I'll take Cloverfield every time.
