These are the ideal material for getting a taste of George Carlin without getting into his heavier cynical/political material. A great intro.

Your missing out. I'm sure you have seen him. He played Rufus on the Bill and Ted movies, he played the Cardinal on Dogma (ironic because he was an atheist at the time), and he played Filmore the VW bus on Cars.

I am pulling out all my George Carlin Laserdiscs (Carlin on Campus, at Carnegie, Again, etc) and my DVDs. I am going to watch them.

The comedy world has lost a great voice, and the Atheist world has lost a great mind at the same time.

I am an Atheist and I respected Carlin for having the balls, getting on stage and make fun of religion with out breaking a sweat.

Does anyone have the extras disc that came with the Bill and Ted box? Was there interviews with him?

Such an amazing shame they never got him to do commentary on it

Carlin was an amazing man who never let people get by, a great voice is gone.

Ironically, he was also the finest narrator for the Thomas the Tank Engine children's films.

From what I hear, he never did become popular in Europe. I think it was because he started out when Monty Python was still big in England.

If you've never heard of him or know of him.

Your best bet would probably be to watch either Bill & Ted movie (He was Rufus) or you could watch almost any Kevin Smith produced movie as he was in alot of those over the past few years.

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back - "Sure, I'll take a shot in the mouth if it gets me where I'm going".

This sucks! He's been one of my favorite comedians for a very long time. I got to see him live once and I own several of his CDs and even one of his books. He was an incredible comedian who was fantastic at social commentary and particularly cynicism. He'll forever be missed and will always be fondly remembered by me and several members of my family and friends who were all huge fans. RIP George!

Let me share a story -- when I was in my first year of college our small school (UNLV -- total students: 6000) used to have "dollar concerts" where you paid your dollar and got to sit in the gym on the floor mats (no chairs) and watch performers on a little 18" off the ground small (8x12) stage.

About 100 of us came in and saw the performer, an unknown singer named Helen Reddy who had just released a single of some song from "Jesus Christ Superstar" that was doing sort of well. I thought she had some potential.

But the best thing was her warm up act -- another relatively unknown comedian who had made a splash as the "hippy dippy weatherman" but was now doing more controversial material. Yep, it was George, and I also thought he might have a decent career ahead of him.

He did his "seven words" but for me it was the little things of the show I loved -- how he "shared a sip" of water with the crowd. The fact that I was sitting about five feet away from him added to the experience, as did shaking his hand afterwards and chatting with him briefly.

Looking back, it was the best $1 I ever spent. As another comedian once said "if there is anyone I have failed to offend I deeply apologize" -- I think that was George's credo in life.
