lemme have it, but deep down you know i'm right.
Agreed. It's terribly difficult because those movies meant so much to me when I was a kid. I remember being 14, waiting hours to see Star Wars in a theater, bla bla bla. I take nothing away from it as a cultural phenomenon and a significant turning point in film history, but as a MOVIE, it just doesn't really hold up. George Lucas is an amazingly overrated film director and it really shows in the clunkiness of Star Wars. It just hasn't aged well at all.

with star wars I still like the first two a whole lot but the third (jedi) and what I liked of the extra stuff as a kid (books, eventual prequels) have really lost their ability to impress me in any way.

I'll admit part of what still interests me in A New Hope is that I really wish I could have been there when it came out. I guess being into it the way I was when I was a kid, that seemed like a cool movie to have been around for, like The Graduate or Blade Runner would have been. (or obviously many others, those just spring to mind)

Well... special effects wise you're right on... it's just terrible... however, any scene that doesn't involve special effects that Val Kilmer is in, is still pretty good. Man, he's hilarious in that movie.

One that I really liked when I was little that I can't stand now... Romancing the Stone. I remember thinking it was exciting and action packed, kinda like Indiana Jones.... boy was I wrong.

See, I'm the other way. If I have something I liked growing up, I generally still like it to this day... if nothing else than for the nostalgia and cheese-factor... examples: Beastmaster, Masters of the Universe, Top Secret! ... all still movies I enjoy and watch on a semi-regular basis.

Oh, I agree! Most movies I grew up with I still love--Commando, Neverending Story, Little Rascals, Homeward Bound, Dennis the Menace, just to name half a dozen. It's just that sometimes I come across an old relic and think "Why did I like this?"

I'll add a vote to that. Howard The Duck has to go on my list as well.

yep, it originally had the Stones opening theme. Awesome show!

unfortunately because of royalty fees (?) the syndicate versions do not use "Paint it Black", now they use some lame elevator music.

Yeah, just like WKRP in Cincinnati. When they actually do show reruns, the music has been "genericized". I'm glad I was able to find a supplier of all original episodes on DVD. Not the best quality, but they are original.

+ 1 for The Wraith, I wanted that car so bad when I was a kid, watched it again a few weeks ago and laughed the entire time. Skank and Gutterboy... Clint Howard with the Lyle Lovette hair and cokebottle glasses, what the hell was I thinking when I thought this was cool ...

I recently watched the original Transformers animated movie and it was a little jarring. It was painful to finish. I knew I was in trouble when Weird Al's "Dare to be Stupid" played through one of the fight sequences. I remember it being better than that. Granted, I was seven.

Default Top Gun

Top Gun I thought this was the best movie when I was a kid. The more I watch it the more I notice flaws like in the final engagment almost every line of diolog gets repeted and Mavick is out of missles just as the sequence finishes. The dog fights still rule!

Over the Top with Stallone. I loved that movie growing up. Now it's just nauseating.

All of my old Van Damme favorites suck now, too.

Wow. I remember watching Over the Top (the Stallone arm wrestling truck driver movie.) When I was younger and saw it, I thought it was ok. Now it is junk.

I tried watching some of the X-men cartoon series from the 90s a couple weeks ago. I used to love them when I was younger. Man were they bad. Whoever they had doing the voices of Storm and Jubilee, they were soooo annoying. I can't believe I ever watched it.

I also used to watch GoBots, but that kind of even stunk back when I was a kid. I'm not sure why I ever watched it.

I also picked up some episodes of the TV show Sliders. Just not as good as I remember.

I dusted off my VHS copy of The Flight of Dragons a couple months ago. It really wasn't as good as I remembered, but was better than I thought it would be (if that makes sense).

Troll, Monster Squad, and Garbage Pail Kids. Although I still wouldn't hesitate to watch them.

I haven't seen Midnight Madness since I was a kid, but I imagine that it is the same way. I need to watch it again, now.

Someone mentioned Willow in a previous post -if you can get past the special effects, it is actually still good.

When I was a kid, I thought that Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor were ok movies. Now I shudder at even the mention of them. They make me cringe.

I would guess that if I were to watch The Wizard (starring Fred Savage) again, it would be pretty bad.
