If I add a second Sub to my 663, will I get audio out of it when playing 5.1 material? There is no 5.2 material I have ever heard of.

Talking Yamaha RX-V663

Been following this site for a few weeks and learded alot thanks to you all!!!

Biggest thing I learned is that my receiver, yamaha rxv-630,was the weakest link of my system after being the star for so long.

I have been looking, researching and waiting for the right moment to step up and it finally came tonight.

While reading a thread I came acrosss 6ave.com and checked the receiver I have been looking at the 663 and saw that it was the typical $499 but then noticed they match to price grabber!

Basically got it for 359 plus tax and bought. Now I wait.

Mine came the other day as well....seems okay but not as big of an increase in quality sound as I expected from my rx-v630.

Lossless pcm and trueHD don't seem that much better than my old DD and DTS. Maybe I dont have it set right. Ran the mic set up.

Also hard to distingish between DD and Lossless in the middle of a movie when switching back and forth. Sound from all speakers very active in both.

Anybody have any thoughts

When you are looking at a BD...make sure that the sound setting that you are using is Straight and not 7ch enhance...that should make a difference.

Yes I did that, thanks.... Don't get me wrong it sounds good but I guess I expected a bigger difference from # 1 my old system and #2 lossless vs lossey.

Example when I watch tdk I can switch audio controls with the ps3 remote and cant tell the diff between the DD 5.1 sound and the True HD sound. I can see the difference on my screen for how much more sound is comming in using the display key on th ps3 but I really cant hear it.

i don't think you're doing anything wrong. there's definitely a difference for me, but it isn't a night and day thing that some people describe it as. at least for me anyways.

Yeah, you'd have to get the V18/V19 to notice a bigger difference.

I have a RX-663 and love the receiver but I find I really have to crank the volume on DVD's and especially on Blu-ray movies. I have the Bose acoustimass 16 series II speaker system set up for 5.1 anyone else find this to be the case?

Yes I have to turn the volume up into the 27-30 range to get decent volume for movies but games in the 50 range.

With my old receiver (Yamaha rx-v630)I could never get to that level. Always had to listen in the 50-55 range for movies and 70 for games.

I just attribute this to; it is what it is; and the difference for games and movies is the same for both receivers

I have to have the volume in the 20-10 range for movies and 30-20 range for music.

That seems like your having to push the envelope. what BD player are you using? Could that make a difference?

i think it depends on the disk itself, some titles sound better then others.
like the yamaha,my onkyo 606 does the job when the disk was done right.
i can hear the difference big time
