Default Kind of the same problem

I purchased transformers on blu and especially the night scenes when bumble bee is fighting that cool black cop car ( can't remember that decepticons name ) The picture looks horrible. I know there is grain present and I don't mind grain at all, but the scenes would end up very blue-ish grainy. I have a kdl-40v2500 and am starting to think that my HDTV is just not up to snuff with these newer released titles I hope that isn't the case! I am doing bad with money now so I can't even think about a professional calibration let alone purchase that HD calibration I see so many recommend from amazon. I'm doing real bad..But I did purchase Ratatouille some time ago and found out through this site that it has a calibration tool, but I have no clue with some of the frames like the color one and contrast - whether low or high, I can always see the little 4 bars circled in green.. I just don't get it. With the settings I have now most of my titles look great (or atleast I think) but transformers arose a red flag for me that something is wrong. My hdtv has an option name Black Corrector and that has helped somewhat diminish the blue looking scenes. Wow I wrote a paragraph, sorry please any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check out that thread. Borrow someone's calibration settings, tweak them to your own liking. Sounds like you may have the sharpness and/or contrast up too high and its accentuating grain.

Try this. I have the same TV and the picture is phenomenal. Transformers does have slight film grain, but definitely not the most I have seen.

Cool thnx for your settings JasonR, I will try them out. Quick question, on Transformers specifically that dark scene with bumblebee shia and megan, with your settings, do you see a bluish like on the picture especially in certain dark scenes. I really appreciate the link and advice with your settings , I will certainly try them out!

No, I did not see the blue you are speaking of. At least it doesn't stick out in my mind, and I have watched it three times.

Default What a Difference!

I can't believe a couple of adjustments here and there can really make a world of difference! What I feel the biggest change was with the color space option.. I feel like I damaged my set with the settings I had prior somehow. Put on Happy Feet for the kids and I had to sit down with them because it looked incredible more so than the 1st time I've seen it on Blu! Thanks to Aramis for the link which provided some insightful information about my set. And many thanks to JasonR for providing your settings which provided this dramatic difference. LoL I can't sound any less happy.. Tranformers looks excellent now, the scenes that plagued my eyes with heavy blue in the dark scenes are gone, now I'm not embarrassed to show my buddies this movie they've been dying to see on blu-ray! My rant is now officially over.

I have a 52W4100 and I also see a grainy picture during the bumble bee / cop car chase all the way up until the end of the fight. What I don't understand is some part of the movie is somewhat grainy, but generally they are more grainy at night.

To see what I'm talking about between the grain differences: at the end of the movie there is a news interview for Sam's parents. The interview scene looked very very good and I didn't see much grain at all. I'm wondering if they are shot using the same film/camera during the day, why 1 scene is much better than another? Perhaps it's because of fast motion VS relatively still video?
