SEPT. 18 | Panasonic will price its latest BD Live model, the DMP-BD35, at $399, which is $300 less than the tag for its first Web-enabled DMP-BD50 model.

Panasonic’s BD Live pricing now matches that of current BD Live models for Sony and Samsung, which today rank as the top two Blu-ray set-top brands. Panasonic’s DMP-BD35 streets in October. A higher end model distinguished by 7.1 surround sound analog output, Panasonic’s DMP-BD55, is expected to street at $499 next month.

Trying to top its Sony and Samsung rivals, Panasonic’s DMP-BD35 can playback BD Live software title features without the need for additional firmware. Sony’s $399 BDP-S350 and Samsung’s $399 BD-P1500 still require additional firmware upgrades before they can handle BD Live interactivity. Samsung is expected to rollout a ‘no firmware necessary’ BD Live player, the $499 BD-P2500, this October.

However, Panasonic’s DMP-BD35 will still require buyers to additionally purchase a SD memory card to view all available BD Live software features.

Further baring its teeth, Panasonic demonstrated its players side-by-side with Sony and Samsung for the media on Sept. 18. This is the first time that Panasonic has made such direct comparisons with its players and rivals in media demonstrations.

Panasonic executives touted better detailed color display and image motion control over Sony’s BDP-S350 and Samsung’s BD-P1500.

Samsuck,Samsuck,....Where to begin. In a nutshell, got one, completely useless, freezes, crashes, get's stuck on and won't shut off unless you unplug it......So I just wrote a letter to the office of the president of samsuck, and told him what I thought of his company rushing horrible products out to compete on a global scale, just to compete with other manufacturers, yada, yada, yada!

I'm not bashing samsung, I just have had every product FAIL MISERABLY from them, that I have bought.(Blackjack cell phone/ blu-ray player/-T.V./ Cordless phones etc.)

P.S. Not one single problem, or glitch with my 350!!!

peviously in this thread.....the 2550, already has playback issues?

Isn't this the 7th or 8th player from samsung with issues right away at release?.....Maybe they should bow out gracefully?

OK...The 1500 will play DVD, CD and BD, so that's good enough for me. All I need anyway.

Well, to be fair, I never had a single problem with the 1500 but I exchanged it for the Sony 350, when I found out about Iron Man playback issues (to be fair, apparently the 350 won't play Iron Man either though). After using the 350 for a day, I found I didn't like the main menu as much as the Samsung, didn't like the remote as much, found it was too small to line up properly with the rest of my equipment and had kind of an ugly front interface compared to the Samsung.

I also found the sound options on the 350 not anywhere near as good as the Samsung for my current setup. I like the Bitstream (Re-encode) option on the 1500 so I can use the TrueHD track for example and it is output as DTS to my receiver (my receiver can't handle TrueHD or high end HDMI audio). It sounds better to me than what the 350 was doing - just outputting DD 5.1. I also like the Dynamic Compression option for sound on the 1500 as well.

Simply put, I think the 1500 is a better unit than the 350. That is why I took the Sony back and got my Samsung back again. That of course is just my opinion and there certainly seem to be a lot of folks who like to call Samsung equipment crap and Sony equipment the best out there. I'm just not one of them.

Ok so now it appears that the Sony 300 won't play Ironman either.

Good going guys... scare away the masses. Two of the now cheapest players and they 'won't work'.

Really? I work at Sears and we have the BD1400 displayed(never been updated) on Samsungs 46" 650 and have Transformers playing from open to close with no problems. If u happen to have this T.V. i've noticed it takes about a min or two for a picture to come up if u try to use the Anynet Device system but other than that it works great.

The Iron Man Blu-Ray disc does not play in my PlayStation3, even after the latest 2.43 version download and update. Paramount has problems with their discs?

As a 1200 owner I can symphatize with you. We dealt with unplayable movies and firmware issues for months. Yes Samsuck's customer support is atrocious but keep being relentless with your complaints. They are aware of your problems but probably feel the best way to address them is by ignoring you.

As of our last FW update in June of 2008 I haven't had any serious issues with my 1200 minus some long loading times and the every so often freezing. *knocks on wood* I'm surprised that even Iron Man plays with all of the complaints I've been reading about today. Although I probably will never buy a Samsung product again I'm glad they finally resolved some of the major issues with my 1200.

I know it's frustrating but I think eventually they'll resolve your FW issues.

Even if you have the Samsung BD-P 1400 with the Profile 1.0. You will always be able to view any Blu Ray Disc. Whenever there is trouble new firmware will be made available. I am a big Samsung fan. So far they have never let me down.

Great choice. I work at Saturn (biggest Retailer Chain in Europe). I have had a chance to test all major players. The Samsung ones are usually the ones the give you the least problems. Also we had a 1400 running for about 8 month for 10 hours a day and it never made any problems. If you compare sony BD Players to Samsung, Samsung is always gonna win. Even though, Sony kinda invented the format. Even that little Iron Man Problem will be solved or is already solved with the new 1.9 firmware that's supposedly available in the US. Over here we still have the 1.8.. (Europe)..
