Taking into account inflation aren't BD's cheaper than when DVD's first came out?

Plus, this is nothing compared to the prices of VHS/Beta movies when those were first out.

I think these are the funniest posts of all, you hve two XBR's a PS3 and don't want to pay $25 for a movie to make those items you have actually be fully functional.

ha-ha-ha.
I might've missed the original post, but well said - kind of ironic that people with $2,000+ televisions and other equipment seem to have complaints over the price of movies.

(I am not complaining about the price of movies myself)

I don't mind paying a few dollars more for better quality.

I do it with everything else, why not movies?

there's a small flaw in that argument though. prices for video games hasn't gone down at all really. for the most part video prices are the same as they were when sega and nintendo were around (the 8-bit consoles). we've been paying these prices for a while now. and they cost a good bit to produce these games. also, let's not forget that the games are the product. therefore they have to make their money with the videogames upfront. whereas blu-ray is just another version of the product. blu-rays don't necessarily have to make money upfront to be able to make their money back.

If I cannot find something I want at that price, I simply wait. For example, I just found I, Robot at Target for 19.99. That title has consistently listed for 29.99 to 39.99 at most other places. Sure I have been wanting it for a while now but I decided to be patient and look for a good deal.

Some advice, avoid mall stores like FYE. They are entirely overpriced on their blu rays. Places like Circuit City, Best Buy, Wal Mart, Target, etc can sometimes offer decent deals on titles. Half.com is your best friend! You can get amazing deals on there. I got The Patriot and Spiderman 3 for like 6 bucks each brand new!

i've always found f.y.e. to be very reasonable on their prices. i hardly pay much for stuff there. i got batman begins brand new on blu-ray for $19.99. i paid $29.99 for iron man, but i've got a $7.00 mail in rebate so in the end i'll have only paid $22.99 for it. that's better than target, best buy, and wal mart usually. f.y.e isn't a mall store either. the one i go to is nowhere near a mall or in one. sure they have locations in malls, but that's like saying sam goody's was a mall store. or tower even.

ha-ha-ha.

I spent months getting good prices for the TVs...best I could. I don't have the best quality either. I could have spent $4000+ for a high end Kuro...but didn't.

First PS3 was $600 early because it was the time when no one could find them.

Second PS3...$150 off of $400 from Sony or would not have bought...to highly priced for my taste without the discount.

Games? I have very few...and was sure to not pay more then $40 for them...even the new releases. BUT as someone said earlier...I am willing to pay more for a game because...that is the only way they make their money. Movies were fully funded in the theater...now they just get gravy. TV shows...already made their money via commercials...again just gravy now.

So yes...I won't pay $25 for a movie...I will pay $20. But right now I own 100 blu-rays...

That being the difference of $25 per movie $2500 total...OR what I paid, $15 average per movie...$1500...

So I saved $1000...just paid for BOTH my PS3s.

That is what I am saying.

I am more then willing to pay more for blu over the norm....just not 30%.

I dont even bother looking for deals on blu's anymore, truthfully i have bought two of them in the last year and will be lucky if i buy another two within the next year. I just have way to many other expenses atm and blu-disk is not going to be one of them. Besides i find it more enjoyable to rent them for 5 bucks for a week from blockbuster, very few movies i care to rewatch within a years time anyways so it works out better for me.

Problem is the more people like me the greater chance for this format to fail, but sorry prioritys come first and blu-ray's are very far down the list of things i need.

Sorry but $25+ for a disc...I don't care what "extras" or how "pretty" it is...no worth it.

I would really enjoy seeing the new releases...just not for that price. And they seem to be getting pricier...slowly.
I'm sorry but I have to call BS on you.

Prices on titles have slowly went DOWN, and very visibly so.

If you talk about the lack of BOGO promos, those were just that, promos. We are talking MSRP and retail price here.

Oh and thanks a ton mods for banishing this post to the off topic forum, where no one who isn't logged in will ever even know it exists! I think this was producing some very nice and civilized discussion on a very important topic to the fate of blu-ray and in the appropriate forum, but I guess you guys didn't like it. Hurray for freedom of speech.

Sorry but perhaps you have not been buying Blu's since day one.

Some prices have come down...correct...but again for certain titles.

BUT "new" movies now are "higher" then a year ago. Most came out at $22 or $23...Now I keep seeing $26 and $27 as the new starting prices.

CLEARLY not lower.

I totally agree with you.

I'm the type of person that likes to drive to best buy and buy my movies there. I would much rather buy something locally then to order everything online. With the current economy I am not buying any blu-rays. I want Iron Man but am not going to spend that money right now, it would be much better spent being in an emergency fund.

Prices need to come down soon if they want it to replace DVD anytime soon.

That is most certainly your choice...

I just believe that they should be lower priced especially if you want to get some product to take off.

Prices are really high at some stores, but price matching and sales adds got me going pretty fast. I paid $15 to $20 for alot of my titles. I print out the $20 blu-rays from Circuit City's web site and price match them at Best Buy's $25 titles. They never give me any problems. I guess they would rather have a sure $20 than nothing at all. Most of the titles I save $5 to $10 on each BD I purchase. I usually don't raise a big fuss about new releases, but I will still go with the cheapest adds. Since January, I have purchased 91 blu-rays, and I am very satisfied.

Grant Matrix: I think you make a good arguement and address some major concerns we all must be made aware of. However, your protest of price seems to be more of a personal consumption issue. If you don't feel financially comfortable building an extensive BD collection at this moment, don't.

I'd strongly advise you to subscribe to Netflix.
