I'm a huge Bond fan, so I'll pick this one up eventually.
With that said, though, I'll probably work on picking up the next wave of classic Bonds first before getting QoS. It was enjoyable, but not the greatest. |

Says the guy who has Doomsday, AvP, and Ghost Rider in his collection. I really don't see how you can call this movie garbage. You may have disliked it, but it can't be considered garbage by any stretch of the imagination.

Quantum of Solace was better then the reviews gave it credit for. The close up action sequences were hard to follow, but every director making a spy movie wants to be the next Paul Greengrass. It was a good follow up to Casino Royale, but some aspects of the story could have been better. With that said Quantum of Solace is a lot better film than the crap Bond movies Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton made.

Agreed. I loved Casino Royale, but QoS was awful. I'm not going to bother wasting $20 on the BD. When they make the 3rd one, they better not bring that director back. The movie is like a crappier version of the Bourne movies.

You're right about that. I think QoS sucks, but not sucking on the same level as 75% of the movies in that guys collection. I have no idea why he spent money on most of those movies.

Unfortunately, I don't think Fox will do a BD only title, but I think there is a chance that the BD will arrive a bit earlier than the DVD. Maybe March 23/ 24 (the latter being North America) will be the Blu-ray and the DVD will follow a few days, or weeks later.

Hoping for an exclusive steelbook to add to the others. Understand that this is a new jumpstart of the Bond movies. This is a sequel to CR. It has to try to be fresh. Like the new loction fonts they used for the different locations. Also i think this is the last time we see the gun barrel at the end. Bond is closer to Bond at the end so thats why its there. Great movie, but not awesome.

Saw it for a 3rd time today (gotta love theaters with MOVIECASH) and it gets better with repeated viewings.
I fully understand where some of the contempt comes from for those who loved CASINO ROYALE. It's not on that level and it's justified to say it lacks some character development. No we aren't as deeply involved with the characters as CASINO. Having said that, there is a very compelling story here. If you look at it from the standpoint of him "becoming Bond", making mistakes along the way, you will see some growth of his character and moreso the development of a bond with "M". I think that's one of the reasons for the gun barrel sequence being at the end as opposed to the beginning of the movie. While we don't know all that's behind Quantum (setting up future stories) we do have an insight into what they are about. As for the character of Bond, he reached a "solace" so far as if Vesper really loved him (his driving motivation) as opposed to just using him. |

What I find interesting is that "Bond Fans" didn't come away with the sense of gradual development of the re-imagined Bond. I suppose everyone got used to the concept of Bond as a pre-established (and one-dimensional) character (even Roger Moore understood the character limitations of the old Bond), but this time around, we're watching a progression of the character and the establishment of how and why the various characters work together. There was development on a character level in QoS, but you had to look for it.
While I can see the bashing on the way the action was shot, as that's a matter of personal preference, to come away without a sense of (and appreciation for) development of the relationship between Bond and M (a critical relationship if the series is to go anywhere moving forward) really baffles me. CR introduced the Tuxedo, and the slight sharpening of the blunt instrument through Vespa's emotional interaction. QoS defined M's ability to influence Bond at the height of his rage, and Bond's attempts to harness the ability to distance himself personally from the violence and death without losing the ability to emote and empathize on a human level. I thought QoS was a fine Bond film, although, to a lot of people's point, it seemed a bit more like CR 1.5 than a standalone entry. I'll have it on Blu day one. |
