Is it worth it? I won't watch any foreign film dubbed, which is why I hesitate to get it.

I think that categorizing this as a dubbed Asian movie is questionable. This version of the movie never appeared in Asia, it was ONLY intended for the US market. It was never intended to have Japanese language in this cut. I hate to sound like a broken record, but it is frustrating to hear people talk about how much of a shame it is that it is dubbed.

Hence why I ask about it. If this is a dubbed and edited movie of two foreign films, I'd prefer to watch the two foreign films in their original language.

Just picked it up at BB for $14.99. I had no planned on purchasing this since I have the DVD's, but at this price I could not pass it up. This will be the 1st time own this movie on any format. I used to rent it from the video store back in the day. Hopefully they will release all of the original movies soon.

I had no idea you could get this at Best Buy. It's not even available for rent on Netflix in any format. Could anyone who has blind bought it tell me their first impressions? I've yet to see this movie.

Good point. If you're going to watch Shogun Assassin, you're going to see it with English dialogue. If you want to see the footage used in Shogun Assassin with the original Japanese language, you have to see the first two Lone Wolf & Cub movies. They used about 12 minutes from the first, Sword of Vengeance and the rest is from Baby Cart at the River Styx.

I would wait for the Lone Wolf & Cub series if I was you.

Does anyone know if this will play on region B players. I live in the UK & have been a fan of this for years & would love to have it in 1080p.

for anyone who will hesitate on buying this because of the dubbing, just go on youtube and watch a clip of it, and you will see what its like. i don't mind the dubbing because it makes it a completely different movie from the Lone Wolf and Cub series, so it kinda makes it fresh. actually the dubbing is kind of funny, lol.

the two original films and shogun assassin, though having the same scenes, are two completely different films. when you dub a movie like shogun assassin, and mix the two first lonewolf and cub movies, you can make them say whatever you want and create your own story line, just like they did.

i first seen shogun assassin, and when i seen lw&c, i was surprised that it wasn't the same story. so, enjoy shogun assassin without hesitation, because when lw&c comes out on bluray, you will never watch it again, because the originals have a better story line and they are a 6 movie set.

The other difference between the originals and Shogun Assassin is the soundtrack. Shogun Assassin has a great synth soundtrack that, along with the eerie Daigoro narration, really works very well. One of the earlier bootleg DVD releases actually included a separate soundtrack CD.

Dubbing foreign language is a pet peeve of mine. I just cannot watch anything dubbed. I completely understand I may forego excellent films, but it is a personal choice that I cannot change. There is only one exception due to the importance of the film: Schindler's List. I was so proud of Tarantino with Inglourious Basterds with the language, and it enhanced the movie tremendously. One of my friends that hates subtitles believed the entire basement scene was in English until he saw it again on home video.

and at it's time of release in the States, it was the trend to dub Asian action movies, 'subtitling' wasn't the norm as it is now a days.
