Pachter predicts PS3 price drop to $299 in April

its a shame sony dosent lower them to $300, and im mad at this guy for letting me down, i was so excited i was gonna pick up 3 of them. now ill have to think about it.

All this time I've been speculating several price increases year after year to something around $999usd about now.

Sony will ask for their stock back and ship it out to a different retailer, one that can sell the PS3 at full price.

They would likely do that, in this case. I wish they didn't gut the earlier models to such an extent. Everything was there, although I never was interested in SACD.

Game system prices only change when you cross national borders. Retailers are under contract to sell at the maker's price: no more, no less.

Dunno if it's true in Circuit City's case, but I've been told by employees at Gamestop, Best Buy and Target that the playable demo "PS3" on display is an empty shell. The brains(cell, HDD, etc) are kept elsewhere in the display unit...not the shiny black box with the Playstation 3 logo. This was within the first 6 months of launch, in stores in LA, SD and Orange counties.

Or, it could be a widespread retail conspiracy to discourage PS3 display theft and to keep customers from bothering them for the display anytime they're out of stock. *shrug*

Can anyone that works for one of these stores confirm or deny?

as far as i know. the ps3 you SEE is totally fake. the real ps3 is below the unit

what if it only has 1 USB port for that 1 demo controller, doesn't read media cards, and no disc drive or something? after all, it's only used with demo games and 1 controller

i'm pretty sure the only difference is that the demo unit's have a demo firmware. still a ps3

They didn't do that when CompUsa liquidated those store locations (went to online-only). Its how I got mine for $50 off!
