no offense whatsoever, but it sounds like you know nothing about audio. just because you may think THX is overrated doesn't mean it hasn't done wonders for theaters. do some research on it and actually read up on why and how much it is used

I do live sound for major performers ... Of which most have heard ..... SDDS Is better in the theaters ... And I have an Audio system that would make you cry.....THX reccommends my to cross my sub @ 80 Hz who in their right mind would want to have a sub play 80 HZ bass ??? My mains play flat to 40 HZ .. 80Hz to a sub = muddy bass

i took a look at your theater, very nice indeed

what i say is just based on my own experiences and i used to work at a movie theater where thx was used a lot and i tried to learn a lot about the theater technologies in my spare time. but, there isn't an end-all-be-all answer. your opinion comes from your experiences and mine from mine

Well... just because you don't like THX doesn't mean the man doesn't deserve recognition. When I brought the subject of THX it was to point out his contribution which beyond the quality of THX, helped the industry focus more on the issue of sound in movies. Many more technologies have come out since THX and I'm sure some are better and some might be fantastic compared to THX but he certainly paved the way. Of course he is not the ONLY person responsible for THX. In fact I doubt he had much to do with it from a scientific/research standpoint. But it was his vision that brought it to life.

That I think sums up his legacy. It has always been about doing the most with what you have. Both SW Trilogies have that in common. He made both with the tools he had at the moment and pushed those tools to the edge. Other filmakers, some probably better than him have taken those tools and made magnificent things we all enjoy. But again, he paved the way. Which is why I insist that beyond what you might think of him as a filmaker (and arguments on both sides are equally strong) I do not think he is a hack.

I wouldn't call Lucas a hack.. he's a very prominent figure in filmmaking and in his early years was very dedicated to his work and had many fresh ideas. Not sure what happened to the SW films though.

I just found this image on Wikipedia and thought it was funny. It's like George is acknowledging criticism of the "Original new Star Wars".

Nevermind. It's too big. Look at George Lucas's page on wikipedia.

I wouldn't call him a hack because I don't suddenly forget the OT, but I honestly find the prequels to be absolutely awful. and I tried HARD to like them all. I even used to think I liked Ep III but I watched it again and it's just not good.

I can't say he is. I don't really care for anything he's ever done, but I can't deny what he's done for the entertainment biz. He's made a lot of very intelligent decisions and some not so intelligent ones, but so do most if not all directors/writers/producers.

I respect him for what he's done. I just don't agree with some of his later decisions.

Therein lies the problem with most people I find.

If you go into a movie, the best way to go into it is thinking that it's going to suck big donkey balls.

That way, you'll always be at least pleasantly surprised {unless it's a Uwe Boll movie, in which case you're just opening yourself up to more disappointment}
