My local course has the Taylor Made drivers and they will work with you to figure out what configuration is the best for your swing.
I'm a huge Taylormade fan, been using my R5 since it's release. The R7 (with the adjustable weights) was even better, but I wasn't ready to make the plunge into my wallet since I hit so well with the R5.
I demoed the new R9 (Adjustable weights, face angle, etc) and honestly didn't really like it. Could be because I was in a driving simulator though. Generally critics love it though.

Yeah, if I get a new Taylormade I'm going to demo it on the driving range. This is the main reason if I buy it I'll get them at a local course rather than a store. I don't trust simulators and i want to see what it actually does.

They're usually pretty good. If I had put a $25 deposit down I could have taken it to the range, but as I said about the R7, I'm not ready to upgrade since the R5 sits with me so well.

Make sure you're not over-spending at the proshop, they'll often charge more then at a retailer, and as I said, many will allow you to take a club for a test at the range or whatever (sometimes for free, sometimes for a small fee or deposit).

My handicap hovers around about 17 but I'm pretty sure that's an optimistic number bearing in mind I usually play the same 2-3 courses. How about you?

Are most golf shoes water proof? I've never even thought of that, good point. WORST thing is stepping in a puddle on a beginning hole and having to play another 3.5hrs with wet socks.
I am 16.. and I also hover up and down! I am a very inconsistent player but I enjoy it and that's all that matters! I am playing in an Intermediate Scratch Cup on Sunday at the K-Club!! (Ryder Cup host a few years back!) Cant wait! It is for those with handicaps of 10-17.

Its incredible man! Really really nice. Delighted I got the chance to play it

I went with 8 straight bogeys and a par in the front nine, then started with 2 pars on the back 9 but then it all went horribly wrong..a 6 on a par 3 followed by a 9 on a par 4!! As it was stroke play, that was me out of the competition! But enjoyed it anyway Was a glorious sunny day, couldnt have been better for golf!

A 12 hole summer comp starts in my club tmrw evening. Its on each weekday. Will play a few of those! Great having the day light in the evenings after work!

Get your shoes?

Awesome, enjoying the game and the course is the best part by far...which is why I don't like the competitive rounds quite as much, most of the time I don't even take part in the bets...and I'd be happy to be so consistent to get 8 straight bogeys haha (maybe that's why I don't bet ). I'm planning a trip to Kananaskis Golf Resort to play at both of their courses (Beautiful Rocky mountain courses in Alberta).

Might go to the golf store this afternoon and demo some drivers. It looks like the free fairway wood offer with driver purchase from Taylor Made has ended, and replaced with a $100 price drop. I wanted to buy a driver from a local course but they didn't have any special offer going so I'll look at the local store prices.

Tiger takes the AT&T National! His demeanor was so different during this match, way more serious. Congratulations to him!

I demoed a Taylor Made driver Thursday but wasn't very happy with it. I think part of the problem is hitting in a simulator where it's dark and completely different than I'm used to. They also hadn't lowered the price of the driver like online stores have since the free fairway wood offer ended.
I'm considering a Callaway driver now. I like my Callaway irons and have read good things about their drivers, and they still have a free fairway wood offer going on.

I purchased this driver today, the 2009 TaylorMade Burner.

http://www.golfsmith.com/products/TM..._Burner_Driver

I was strongly considering going with the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo because it came with a free fairway wood but I hit the Diablo and Burner today and liked the Burner much more. It also was $100 cheaper which makes up for not getting a fairway wood. I went with a 9.5 head and regular flex. I tried all 3 flexes and the regular worked best for me, which was a bit surprising because I'm a bigger guy and they figured I'd swing harder but that didn't turn out to be the case. I'm glad I went to a store and demoed the club because I was strongly considering buying the Callaway off the internet because it was cheaper. I'm anxious to play the Burner tonight and see how I do.

I don't use fairway woods..... and I hit an 8 degree Driver (extra stiff shaft)

I can't hit a fairway wood consistently enough.

Do you guys know what your average swing speed is?

By the way, the Burner is a popular choice. Personally I don't like it very much, I tried the Burner 09 irons last week and they were quite nice though, especially considering the price difference for the R7 irons.

woh.. wouldnt have a clue! I suppose there are places that you get all that tested out.. I dont thing swing speed is everything though. People with a steady relaxed swing hit just as far as those with a very fast swing

My swing was around 90 mph yesterday when I was demoing clubs, which according to Golfsmith means I should use a regular flex shaft, which is what I ended up going with (based on hitting clubs, not on Golfsmith recommendation).

I wanted to play last night but there was an outing going on so I could only get on the range. I hit my new Burner decent but I really want to get out and see it in action. Hopefully tonight I'll be able to get 9 holes in.
