Amazing film, but was any one really pissed off at the anti smoking ad that plays when you hit PLAY from the main menu. That really irked me as I have paid for this disc and don't need to see a commercial before I start the film.

This movie was okay. It was somewhere in the middle. The acting, script, and whatnot was all good.. but it was really boring and the story wasn't very entertaining.

I think all Miramax titles are doing that. I picked up No Country For Old men 2 disk yesterday. It also had that non-smoking commercial at the beginning. I thought it was pretty funny..I never expected that commercial.

EDIT: I have yet to see Doubt. I will give it a rent...Its one of those movies that I will just see once and just leave it there...same thing happened to me with American Gangster...and the same thing that is going to happen with No Country.

Personally, I find that watching Doubt once is not enough.

Thumbs up

Watched it last night. I got so sucked into this movie that I cant even comment on AQ or PQ. It was amazing. The performances go without saying, given the cast....but the directing was magical. The pacing of the dialogue and interactions between charaters was fantastic.

Its an extremely simple story, made into a masterwork by those behind, and, in front of the camera.

The PQ I thought was pretty great for a film with subdued colors. The film itself was superb. Great acting, story, directing, etc.

Isn't it great when something like this happens? To be completely surprised and taken away by a film is what it's all about.

I agree with you completely about "Doubt". It's a mesmerizing film.

I just watched it today and loved it. One of those 'stand by the water cooler' and talk about sort of flicks.

Just wanted to add a belated +1 to somebody's post. After deciding this was a film I had little/no interest seeing, finally gave into my curiosity and watched it via Starz or Showtime (3 months free ). Surprisingly it was at least as good as "they" say, and seemingly quite authentic (my Catholic upbringing was during that same timeframe, although it was just public schools for me).

Necrobump!

Quick question: is there any difference between the original Disney/BV release and the subsequent re-releases from Lionsgate? Because I'm seeing widely variant pricing between the various editions.

They’re the same disc. The pricing is because it’s probably OOP(along with other Miramax titles that Lionsgate has now lost the rights to).
