I don't lend out anything I own (games, movies, books, controllers, car, etc). The way I look at it is; I wanted the item, I paid for it. You want the item, you can pay for it too.

The only exception is my parents and sister, they are allowed to watch the movies I own somewhere in the house besides my home theater, but only if I insert and remove the disc. They don't handle the case or disc, whether steelbook or amaray.

Some people might call that selfish, I call it protective and fair. Why should I do all the buying so that other people can use it for free?

I agree with you 10000000000000% except I do not let anyone but my wife handle my discs. The way I see it, if you lend movies out to family and friends you end up having to ask for them back. This makes you look mean but it's not. They should be responsible enough to return your item without having to be asked.

Man can't believe how anal some people can be. I know they are collectors items but at the end of the day it's still something meant to be used. I've lent out several and have had no problems since and if one were occur I could care less.

I don't lend out my BDs to anyone either, because people don't treat them the way I do myself. I'm OCD about getting scratches and dirt on the cases & discs. And all previous experiences with lending them out, have resulted in getting them back in poor condition.

Though I think your "you want to use it, you pay for it" philosophy is kind of harsh. Do your friends charge you if they give you a ride in their car?

Well, that's your choice isn't it. See if you feel the same in 6 months time if your friends have returned your discs all scratched up.

I have my own car which I rarely go anywhere without, because I feel much more comfortable driving myself than going with someone else. But in the event that I asked someone to drive me somewhere that they were not going to otherwise, I would give them $5 - $10 for gas money depending on the distance of the drive.

Everyone is going to have varying opinions on the issue of course though

Only family borrows my movies. My sister-in-law is going on 7 months and counting with True Blood season 1...might've lost it in the move.

Steelbooks? You look at mine funny and you get a whoopin'

Heck-No! I refuse to loan out any of my BDs, I don't even loan out the DVD Disc in my Combo Packs (I consider them part of the BD).

My wife doesn't even try to watch a BD I have as a Steelbook. She waits until I'm home to take the disc out of its plastic sleeve & open it myself, Then we watch said movie together.

Maybe she knows I'll freak out...

Before I got hooked on steelbooks, I let some girl from work borrow my Hurt Locker. Thank goodness I got it back in the same condition.

I also don't like to let people "borrow" my blu rays but I do sometimes. I also don't like to borrow other people's movies. I'd either rent it or just go buy it.

I let people borrow movies all the time, but never the steelbook cases themselves. I keep them under lock and key. And I have to really trust the person before I let them borrow anything. I usually take the disc out, put it in an old dvd or cd case, then lend it out. And I make sure they know if anything happens to even the disc, they will buy me a new one.

I will never let anyone borrow my steelbooks! I don't even let my own family touch my steelbooks to look at let alone borrow them. They can borrow the movie disc only. I am that anal about steelbooks! Steelbooks don't come cheap so it would suck if you got your steelbook back in a condition that it wasn't originally. If the discs become scratched...they are easily replaceable so I could care less about lending those out. Of course if it was scratched up...I would make them buy me a replacement.
