I hope for the Chasing Amy X Blu-Ray they do a new commentary and Kevin Smith says; "F**k Blu-Ray!" If you do not understand what I am saying, watch the Criterion DVD with commentary.

Actually, Criterion only makes a deal for the individual release. They don't purchase all rights for home video releases of the film, only their own.

This means Criterion only owns rights for the material which is exclusive to their release. Other materials are owned by the normal distributer. However, material exclusively released by Criterion could still have been supplied by the normal distributer, meaning it would still be owned by the original distributor rather than Criterion.

Finally, Clerks X wasn't a Criterion release. Chasing Amy was, but whatevs. Anyway, as was already made clear, Smith went to Criterion to ask them to do a re-issue of their edition of Chasing Amy for Blu-ray and they refused. Looks like Disney has decided to go ahead with it though, and in addition, decided to put Clerks together and do a triple pack release with those two new ones and the previously released Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

But, if it is Miramax (aka Disney), the I definitely see them waiting to do a tie-in, which means waiting for the next Kevin Smith film (Red State?) to come out next year.
I doubt it. Red State isn't anything like the other films. There would be little to no reason to tie it to Red State. Another film he is directing called A Couple of Dicks would make more sense, but it's a WB release.

Edit to say: Unless Universal is bringing 'Mallrats' out at the same time, then maybe...

I'm skeptical, but excited. Hopefully we'll see hear something soon.
Disney would have no way of knowing if Mallrats was coming from Universal unless it was officially announced.

I'd rather them just keep the same commentary track and change the preface.

And actually "**** DVD" would take on a new meaning when released to Blu-ray, eh?

Looked like I typed too fast. I meant to say that the Chasing Amy DVD was released by Criterion, not Clerks.

For our American friends that's like $10!!!

I have not ordered from Amazon.CA so my question would be..... what is their minimum for free shipping? $25 CDN ? I may jump on this, and others.....

I really just want CLERKS. on Blu-ray..... I can live with my DVDs of the others.... but Clerks is a favorite of mine.

I checked out the Chasing Amy Blu-ray (Alliance Canadian release) over the weekend and I was pretty underwhelmed. The movie looks very soft and grainy. It didn't look much different from a DVD to me. This could just be the way the movie looks - I know it was fairly low budget. But don't expect a lot of HD "pop" from this release.

I think it's CDN$39, but you'll find some other great deals on there for films that aren't released - there's a thread on AVS about which ones are available if there isn't one here.

People were saying it was shot on 16 mm, so it's not all that surprising to think it might look "soft". Should still look better than DVD though.

That might explain it. After a while, I stopped focusing on the picture quality and simply enjoyed watching the movie again. It doesn't look terrible or anything, but it's not one you will want to pull out to show off Blu-ray.

Apparently, according to his Twitter page, Kevin just finised the "commentary track" (AKA SModcast) for the Chasing Amy Blu Ray. That was posted about 3 hours ago.
