Watched the first half of it over the weekend. Thought it looked pretty darned impressive, considering the film's age. So far it's not the campfest that I thought it would be, and the pacing of the film is much more deliberate than I expected, with not a whole lot of excitement, either. Hopefully things will pick up in the second half.

This is highly unlikely release for Australia at the present time. Have a friend who works at Warner Home Video's headquarters in Sydney and she delved into their upcoming release lists. It is not slated for release in Australia even up to the first quarter of 2010 !!! Thankfully, their UK counterpart is releasing a BD on November 16 and it can be played on our Region B-encoded players. Just don't know if all the great extras that were on the 2-DVD Anniversary edition in 2005 (and which have been ported over to the Fox BD) will make the UK version. Warner Home Video is sometimes vague on its content offerings. |

As an extra, in the New Years Eve party scene, I have always been a big "Poseidon Adventure" fan! I have read somewhere that Fox is trying to get the original six track stereo sound elements for the bluray edition. The dvd came out in mono and the special edition dvd came out in plain stereo.
And yes, if the quality of "The Poseidon Adventure" is even close to "The Towering Inferno" I will be a very happy camper! I have a front projector set up with a 12 foot widescreen, so big movies like these like GREAT! |

I wasn't aware that 6-track sound elements even existed for this movie. Any links to this? |

The Towering Inferno Blu-ray movie and extra features was enjoyable to watch. A total of 44.9GB is used on the 50GB dual layer Blu-ray disc. The Interactive galleries and still galleries are 1080P quality. However the Blu-ray review at the following link incorrectly mentions that most the extra features are 480P quality when in reality there is no 480P extra features on this Blu-ray title. When reading the following review it should say “480i” instead of saying “480p” several times. One can verify for themselves that almost all the extra features except for the still gallery type items are all 100% 480i SD quality. If one places their Blu-ray player on source direct and pushes the info button on their display it shows the incoming resolution being 480i.

I have to say ... I watched the first 20 minutes of this blu tonight ... I think the colors have been adjusted ... And that is not a good thing.
The yellows seem to veer towards green more and the saturation levels seem boosted for the most part. Fr example , the trees seem to have been painted green, and the blu skies behind the tower look extremely royal blue. I need to compare it to the DVD ... It just looks a bit weird to me. |
