No, you don't have to buy an additional sound system...but if youre not satisfies with what you do have, then it might be something to consider?

But what about those other lucky people who can actually all bluray movies through their tv speakers with no problems? Why can´t I be one of them? hehe
There are literally hundreds of threads/posts where people are not happy with the TV audio! And the "lucky" ones you speak of probably are not as sensitive to this, they may just accept it for what it is so you don't hear their complaints?

Well let me put it this way. I have successfully watched dvds for years with no audio problems, then I suddenly switch to bluray and boom I can´t hear a single word that´s being said. All I am saying is they should have thought about that before making the dts format the way it is. If I buy a product, I expect it to deliver audible audio: it´s not too much to ask. I have read posts of people with a surround system, who still have the same problem so I can never be sure that investing in that, even if I had the space, would solve my problem. I looked up the latest firmware..I don´t suppose this has anything to do with my problem?

Improved Compatibility:
Adds compatibility with DTS Neo:6 to convert the audio into 5.1 or 6.1 channel format.

many variables go into play when you talk about surround systems. Are they trully 5.1/7.1 systems or are they 2.0 that matrix stereo into 5.1/7.1, but still not true surround? are these people setting up their systems correctly? probably not. If you have a dedicated surround sound system properly set up with a designated center channel, there should be zero problems with dialogue. Unless of course the movie itself is just terribly mixed bad?

Dts Neo:6 - "like Dolby's Pro Logic IIx system, can take stereo content and convert the sound into 5.1 or 6.1 channel format."

Basically what Neo6 is, is 2.0 content that is faked into 5.1/6.1, not really true surround sound. And no it would not help your situation as this is more of a receiver feature, not gonna help your TV.

Oh well I think now I have tried all I can try to fix this. Thanks for your assistance! I might take this up with Sony support and ask what they want me to do about it.

Well at least I will have taken this a bit further and hopefully ,if enough people care to complain, someone at dts will be solving this problem one day

We have been so frustrated with this issue - same thing, bravia TV and Sony blu-ray player. I called Sony who doesn't seem too concerned with my problem, but we have been continuing to use the PS3 to play movies since they are worthless on the blu ray! What is the bottom line solution to this?

I've read this entire thread and for the life of me don't seem to know what is causing the problem, for I have never encountered low volume levels using my S350 with a Bravia KDLV4600 LCD via HDMI. The two most recent movies I've watched without the use of my Audio system were "The Hangover", and "The Men who stare at goats". I may have watched a bit of "Avatar" without my system but that was it.

Depending on your TV's audio settings, I turned off any sound enhancements such as simulated surround or noise reduction options. I'll have to check how the 350 is set up with HDMI audio, I know it's set to "Direct" using Digital Coax to a non HDMI Receiver.

This is a great player and I hope owners are able to resolve this issue soon.

To groove (the last post) do you have a speaker system? It seems like it is only people without speaker systems with the problem when you are connected via HDMI cable and only run audio through the TV.

I have the option to use either my Display's speakers, or my HT Set up as well.

To listen using my Display's speakers, the 350 is attached via HDMI.

To listen with my HT set up, the 350 is connected via Digital Coax to a Sony Receiver. (Non HDMI)

I can say that previous posts about DTS audio being the problem were right on the money in my case. The DTS audio tracks just do not give enough to the center channel, thus making the dialogue less audible. My solution ? I ended up trading the Sony player for the Panasonic DMP-BD60, which has the great feature called dialogue enhancer. That worked wonders for me and it was a much cheaper solution than an expensive Sony surround system with dialogue enhancer feature.
