yeah, I mean...some of the movies get announced in just a months advance ...like Blood Diamond, which will sell real well...

we've been hearing about more movies coming out and it's been quiet after Pirates.....

I call it the calm before the storm.....and right now BD can't compete with HD DVD's price....but the content they CAN and likely will produce will show why HD DVD is a waste of money....

Almost all of the Universal releases are junk, and they are even getting bad PQ and AQ reviews-no need to fret.

Yeah, I did pick up a cheapo HD-DVD player, but that's because I don't want to wait years and years for Universal titles to come to Blu Ray. Not to metion the WB titles that will look and sound exactly the same, but with BD-J features insteead of IME. Woo.

it is tempting...but I think HD DVD is on it's last legs...so it probably doesn't matter....

Well, I know i am fairly new. Joined a while back, when i had some money to buy all this stuff, and now that school is over and I have some money again, I am right back to it. And I do know quite a bit about the format. I would not consider myself new at all.

I agree with CYMBOL in a way, because i have been seeing this publicity for HDDVD and the HDDVD fanboys turning every piece of factual information around so it makes them look better. ie Pirates selling basically the same as Matrix, and many more, HD DVD player top seller at Amazon, etc. And i don't know how to take it, because i am the type of person that wonders about everything, that takes into account all sides and likes to get my hands on something definitive that cannot be turned around before i acutally BELIEVE! Now I definitely think that BD had a great advantage, and IMO is easily the superior format, but I still do wonder at times.

wondering is fine...but when I choose a side, I stick with it and that's it....

I, for one am not wondering if I made the right choice.....everything from weekly, monthly and SI sales numbers to studio support has me not worrying.....

a year ago...I worried...especially when the Samsung player had faults and 5th element was crap.....THAT'S WHEN I WORRIED.....but now we're on cruise control..

I like your attitude. I'm BD all the way, I would only switch over the HDDVD if all studios went to that camp and BD was known to be history and we didnt really have a choice. I feel like they have no chance when I tell people about the format, and I do think that quite often, but doubts are still there. Like, what if, so and so happens. But all evidence says we're winning.

Cheap HD DVD players might also imprint the image that HD tech is cheap and therefore may not be a good one to go with. Things that are cheap generally are cheap and may not necessarily stand in the competition in the long run. People would prefer to go with stuff that has credibility and quality and for that people can spend the extra bit.
So I think since we already have a better movie lineup and more studios supporting BLu ray + Blu ray player prices reducing by the day and Toshiba feeling the pressure by the month, Blu ray shud be fine.
I am from India and I thank Sony for putting HD tech in my room with such efficieny and affordanility that is hard to come across when new techs are launched.
BTW no one in India as a mass consumer knows about HD DVD but there is awareness about blu rays because of the PS3 , so there are abt a billion potential BLU ray consumers lol(just kiddin, but it is true that HD DVD is not known)

Look, what it should be able to support and what they put in the spec are two completely different things. Blu-ray will not support DD+ at anything less than 7.1 - that's it. Now, someone asked me the other day why they can't just record two silent channels, which is something I hadn't even thought of. That may be the only way to do '5.1' DD+ on Blu-ray, and that is to add two additional silent channels. I didn't make it up, the BDA did. Google it.

And if DD+ is like this, then how is DTS HD then, the same as DD+. Not supporting DTS HD 5.1, but it does support DTS HD 7.1?

Note: I said DTS HD, not DTS master HD
I don't even know what exactly you're trying to say here. DD+ and DTS-HD have nothing to do with one another. In fact, DTS-HD HR and DTS-HD MA don't have anything to do with one another. Blu-ray supports DTS-HD HR and DTS-HD MA at 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 and it supports TrueHD at 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1, although I cannot recall offhand what the maximum resolution at what number of channels is supported for each codec. I believe at least one of the lossless codecs (MA & TrueHD) is capable of 192/24 at 5.1. It may be DTS-HD MA, IIRC.

Not to mention poor quality control - stock pot and a Bunsen burner anyone?

DD+ is 1.5mbps.
DTS HD is also 1.5mbps.

So, what i was trying to ask is: Is DTS HD also 7.1 only, or is DTS HD able to do 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1, according to BD spec?

But you allready answered this, so......

Actually, DTS-HD HR is not 1.5 Mb/s, it is 3Mb/s. The old dts codec is up to 1.5Mb/s. Of course, all DTS-HD HR and DTS-HD MA soundtracks have a 1.5Mb/s dts 'core', for legacy support.
