What player do you have?

And does the DVD Talk reviewer say what player he's using? I couldn't seem to find it anywhere in the review.

Is the freeze repeatable? Does it always freeze at the same spot? Can you fast forward through the trouble segments?

the freezing sounds like a problem I had with Face/Off and 3:10 to Yuma. The disk would freeze then jump to the next sceen at the same spot each time. I tried a firmware upgrade and that did'nt do any good. It turned out to be bad disks from Wal Mart! I tried I think 4 copies of 3:10 to Yuma from Wal Mart before I finally got them to give me a refund. I then ordered the same titles from Amazon just to see if it was the disks and it was!

Wow, that's weird. If I were in your position, I'd just exchange it for another copy at the store I bought it from - just for the heck of it really, the new copy can't be any worse and hopefully would be better. I'm curious what the root cause of this problem is - you'd think if it was a physical disc defect, it'd happen every time, not only sometimes.

Or maybe it was shot at 1080i/60. It's an old show

They simply took the same 1080i HD master used for the television broadcast for the Blu-ray Disc. Thankfully, CBS Video did remaster the audio in DTS-HD MA.

Like Jeff says, as long as you have good deinterlacing, you should be fine. I just know some will be vocal about it not being 1080p24 on disc.
Stacey let us know last month that it would be in 1080i... before it became public knowledge.

Well, I wonder if it's something that isn't exactly a secret anymore to long time fans of the show.

Plan to get this tomorrow and look forward to watching in HD.

I know that this isn't a US release but it looks like Season 8 is getting a Blu Ray release in Australia

Can you shoot in 30p on 35mm?
If they couldn't get 24p back as said, does it mean it was shot in 24p (60i with pulldown) or in 30p (60i)?

Technically I guess you could - you'd just need to speed up the rate it is filmed at.

I know. I'm really ticked about it. Not so much about NY - I don't mind seeing that on DVD as I've never seen it on Blu Ray. But after Season 8 and 9 of CSI on Blu Ray, I actually cringe thinking that I'll have to eventually give in and get season 10 on DVD.

I am going to wait until season 10 gets a UK release though. Probably around March next year looking at prior releases - there is still a chance there may be a blu ray release in Europe.
