You are actually completely wrong. This HD transfer of The Red Shoes is a brand new 4K restoration that had never been released on DVD prior to the ITV DVD/Blu-ray in 2009.

The transfers we have on Blu-ray are the transfers from ages ago -just rescaled [from the original digitised elements] for 1080p. Those same transfers have been around for ages.

Nothing new on the Blu-ray. Apart from the format itself featuring these films of course. That's what I mean as 'simple' re-releases.
Pyoko has already addressed your statement. I also urge you to take the time and read the reviews we have because you are obviously misinformed.

Just bought this as the price for it dropped again on amazon this week. I had read so much about the restoration and the theatrical re-release helmed by Martin Scorcese. It is truly amazing and as the reviews state this IS what Blu Ray is all about. Cant recommend it highly enough

I watched my Criterion version for the first time only a few days ago (it was also taken from the restoration and according to most reviews is basically identical to the ITV release) - I echo the above comments, it looks fantastic. The Ballet of the Red Shoes is one of my favourite film sequences ever and is truly phenomenal in Blu!

Great stuff! The picture looks like oil paint that's been pushed on with a pallet knife. It makes todays films look so pale.

Decided on the UK release over the Criterion as the transfers/audio are basically identical and even though the Criterion has more extras I don't think it's worth an extra £20.

Anyway, how come the back of the UK case says the AR is 1:78??

Yeah, a fiver on Amazon, what's that, about a fifth of the Criterion release, & the Criterion is locked to region A, as the yanks say, a no brainer. I suppose any Blu-ray is 1:78 (16:9 to be more accurate), don't worry, the picture is correct, part of that 16:9 picture is black bars each side.

I'm in the US and I got a region free player specifically so I wouldn't have to pay the high Criterion prices for movies without a lot of extras I might only watch once but probably won't watch at all.

There's an upcoming Steelbook edition of The Red Shoes coming from ITV on September 10th. Complete with the typo "Cressburger" instead of "Pressburger" on the card

I wonder if this hints at a possible ITV release of the newly restored AMOLAD?

What an eyesore. It makes me regard Criterion's unspectacular art in a new light.

That is one fugly Steelbook, and 'Cressburger' just rubs salt in the wound.

I purchased a used copy of the Australian region B release from Beyond Home Entertainment. When I pop the disc into my region free (modded) Sony player, the Red Shoes splash screen comes on but no menu items show (Play, Scenes, Audio, Extras etc). Tried multiple times with 'pop up menu', 'top menu', 'chapter search' options but none show up on screen. Hit the Play button too but no dice. Reloaded the disc a few times but no luck. Anyone's experienced this ? Appreciate any help. TIA

Is it a native (North America) Sony player? Likely some 50i video material. It won't be able to recognise that frame rate.

My multi-region Sony (European) plays everything and there's no doubt some Sony players with 110v play everything but highly unlikely to make their way to the US.

Why are you buying such a poor version anyway? Criterion's 4K disc is a great release.

Dr. Svet's review https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-R...297992/#Review

It's on sale in lots of place like Amazon for $24.98 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09GCL6WNQ/
