I actually laughed when I saw Gylenhaal in the role, he looks both goofy and like one of those cheesy Halloween hippies (but in a CGI laden Middle east)I know nothing about the games but the flick as a whole looks like it has some potential, unless Jake screws it up, the chick looks hot though, I'd be in just for that reason alone, the director not so much after he damaged Harry Potter 4, and I've heard his other work is crap, never seen any others but who knows. I might see this if I remember it's around when it's around.

Anyone else reminded of Assassins Creed with that shot of that goes around him at the top of the building?

Also, that giant backflip thing he does looks awesome and is the exact imagery I have when I think of the game.

Yeah it looks like they've got the look of the game down, and yeah that 360 view looked just like Assassin's Creed. I've hear a few other people online say that as well. Maybe the director got the games confused

Ben Kingsley will sadly not quarantee that this will be good.
He's been in many crappy movies lately.
Losing a bit of his credibility.
edit: just saw the trailer, all the cgi worries me...

There are a number of light colored Persians; Jake is light skinned, but he's also half Jewish. If anyone was miscast, it was the princess.

Again, bad representation of Persians in 300 as well. Awesome looking movie, but offensive to Persians all around the world. God forbid if any other race was portrayed that way!

300 was never meant to be a History Channel-type documentary historical portrayal. I don't understand why people still can't understand that.

I almost fell over laughing when Xerxes showed up....
and the big guy...
and the immortals...
and the Spartan "armor"...

Basically the whole movie

And on top of it I didn't think the movie was all that great anyway.

Just saw the trailer. Looks like it could be very good. If nothing else, it looks like an entertaining movie.

Agreed, also this looks like a cgi crapfest, though the cgi is to be expected.

It's not enough for someone to deliver their lines competently or perform acrobatic feats capably; he has to command the screen, convince the audience that no other can fill this role except him; this is where Jake falls short (substantively, I might add). He has an aloof presence that I can't dismiss. He worked well in Jarhead and Brokeback Mountain, but is decidedly miscast for the role of Prince Dastan.

I enjoy the PoP games, so I have a specific rendition of the character in my mind, as far as what he exudes and how he is perceived; Jake couldn't be further from what I envisioned. In my book, he's just wrong for the role.

The upside is that the CGI looks great, and I'm not as conflicted with the casting of Gemma Arterton (in the role of Tamina) as I should be.

Jake is a fantastic actor. I'm sure he will be able to pull it off. You have to remember, this prince is NOT the same prince as the one in the game.

That may be, but it is still a video game to movie adaptation, and even though there have been three different Prince characters in the Prince of Persia series, Jake Gyllenhaal is ill-suited for this role, in my opinion. It has nothing to do with his résumé or his credibility as an actor; he lacks an intangible quality that lends to the perception of his originating from Persian royalty. In short, he doesn't look the part (to me); he lacks a princely stature.
