For the love of God, stop citing this as a meaningful thing. Epstein is the one who introduced 4K to the conversation in the first place, as per a conversation with Finn. Nobody was saying that before he said it. The fact that he did not follow through on his claim to a fellow board member who jokingly asked him to confirm it a second time is not meaningful when he doesn't retract the initial comment about a 4K transfer. Nothing to ADD. Nothing to ADD. No ADDITIONAL information beyond what has already been posted. What posted stands, and there is no further information.

This is where that idea started in the HTF thread. The posts are verbatim. My comments on the posts are in bold: The last Blu-ray release of this movie was such a disaster that maybe a new transfer had to be struck in order to do the conversion (Matt Hough Post 2) He is speculating. We might be in luck. Somebody posted this link at another site: https://twitter.com/tylerfdvdtalk/st...26543474966528 (YanMan Post 3). Note that there is no mention of 4K in the tweet. You did however ask him if it would be viewable in 2D ala I, Robot. According to the Tweet by Fox’s Jamie Finn, both the 2D and 3D are new 4K transfers…HallelUjah!!! (Lukejosephchung Post 4) This is not based on anything in the tweet. Good news if really true, if not, I stick with my old mpeg2 version can you please provide the link to his tweet. I can’t find it. ( EnricoE Post 5) Enrico can’t find it, because it doesn’t exist. Hey Ron, Can you confirm with your contacts at Fox if the 2D version is actually a new 4K transfer? There seems to be a little confusion about this. (Dave H Post 10) Good, some skepticism is introduced. I am meeting with Fox tomorrow night. I shall ask. In fact, I may be able to get an answer sooner. Ronald Epstein post 11) As you can see, Epstein is responding to an inquiry to confirm a new 4K transfer was used. He did not initiate the idea, nor did Finn. The meeting he was referring to would have been in NY which is where Finn was at the time. Just received confirmation directly from Fox that the 2D version (in addition to the 3D) is indeed a new 4K transfer. (Ronald Epstein Post 12) No source or method of communication mentioned. It is implied that it is James Finn and that it is not face to face. Is this new 4K transfer actually new or was it the basis for the last Predator release which some people (including myself) would not buy.( Foxymulder post 14). We still have some skepticism. The information I received comes directly from James Finn at Fox. However, just for you Malcolm, I am going to again pose the question again to Mr. Finn tonight when I see him. I’m certain that he’s going to reiterate to me that this is a brand new transfer all around. Check back in this thread later this evening. (Ronald Epstein Post 18) This post is dated 6 Aug. Remember, he has not met with Finn face to face, yet, but planned to later in the evening. Ronald, it’s been more than a week. Get any new info? (Ted Van Duyn Post 30) So on 14 Aug, over a week has passed since Epstein was supposed to have met face to face with Finn. No new info other than what I already posted, sorry. (Ronald Epstein Post 31) So, we are left wondering if Epstein had his face to face meeting with Finn and what was discussed. |

That sort of process can also help to regulate the look of disparate, lower quality sources when restoring a film, which would only help Predator if the movie was as heavily reframed as the rumour mill suggests. It's got a fair few opticals which would certainly benefit, anyway. |

I cannot wait to see this in 3D. I vividly remember seeing this in the theaters. I was in sleepaway camp and they allowed us to see this on a trip. I remember reading Fangoria magazine stories leading up to the release. This just brings back so many good memories of childhood. And now, to see a fresh new take in 3D, just awesome man!!!! I hope they do this with any of the Batman movies out there. I bet 300 would look good in 3D as well. I say the more the merrier...So lets get it started....What movies would everyone like to see converted to 3D on blue ray? You know, like this and Top Gun? I for one say: The Alien movies or the Matrix !!!! Lets hear your thoughts dweezles!!!!

I'd prefer they first spend that money presenting 2D movies in 2D properly.

In the posts you quoted verbatim, I see Ron Epstein saying he has it direct from Fox that it's a new 4K transfer. I confess that I was wrong that he got that information in person, but he did get it directly from 20th Century Fox (someone at the studio agreed that it was a new 4K transfer), and my point still stands that "nothing more to add" means nothing additional to add to what has already been posted.
I think, as I have said repeatedly, that your skepticism is nutty. I am not sure what rational universe you're coming from but it's not the one I live in. |

![]() I have a feeling the people posting in the HTF thread may be in my universe, since all the excitement about a new 4K scan disappeared and the thread died, when Epstein failed to confirm that a new 4K transfer was made for this Predator 3D release. As far as I can tell the folks in this forum seem to agree with my interpretation of what's been said thus far rather than yours. I wouldn't take the lack of discussion in HTF to mean anything because there's currently no news on this title -- here it's just you and me going back and forth. |

![]() Face it, most people bought the 3D editions of Titanic, Jurassic Park, Top Gun etc because the films were given extensive remastering, not because they were in 3D. Converting movies that were originally shot in 2D to 3D is basically the modern day equivalent of colorizing black & white films. |

In a way it would actuelly be hypocritical of these people not to also accept colorization of black & white films because they are supporting something equally as "unacceptable." |

It looks like in that shot, all the technicians did was scrub out the grain, jacked up the contrast (surprisingly there's little to no highlight clipping) and slightly tweaked the colours a bit. Talk about lazy remastering. Last edited by The Fallen Deity; 08-20-2013 at 09:11 AM. |
