On my journey through the "new to me" extras - sampled through both the Extended Cut and the Broadcast. Some random thoughts:

- Very impressed with the quality of both the broadcast version, as well as the SD inserts in the HD extended version. I know nothing about the sources, but they sure are cleaned up about as well as I've ever seen anything SD cleaned up.

- I think both are interesting for historical purposes/curiosity sake, but aren't something I think actually adds to the film. Pleasence isn't his strongest in the additional scenes - and they really slow things down, IMO. Part of the beauty of the original cut is the pacing, and it's just not something that needs to be messed with.

Very glad to have seen them - but I'm all set with the regular cut of the film in glorious 4K going forward.

Supposedly some Best Buy's have put out the Scream Factory release of the first film on 4K at least a week early if you watch Wetmovie1 newest Blu-ray video from the other day he got it and they actually sold it to him too not sure why and how though.

Felt like the universe punished my arrogance of getting an early copy of this disc and spent the night in the ER. So it's very surreal waking up medicated to see new Panasonic firmware to fix Dolby Vision finally. At least now I can enjoy the transfer to it's fullest and less concern if the rest of the series will have working DV.

Actually I would say just the opposite: to my eyes, the Shout remaster looks about the same as the 2013 with just a notch more saturation -- and not even "a notch more saturation" in some scenes.

As it's been discussed over the last 24+ hours in this thread.

When Wetmovie gets his discs first and I had them pre-ordered 6 months ago it feels like. Maybe Coolduder will have part II.

Have the first film on pre-order but since it's available in stores early decided to order up Halloween 1 and 2 and pick them up this week. I simply don't trust Best Buy packaging this up properly so will just return my pre-ordered copy when it arrives. Those slipcovers do look nice I might add....

Just went to my local Best Buy hoping to score a copy of part 1 and ended up scoring both parts 1 and 2. New transfer looks great. However, I'm pretty disappointed in the quality of the SD inserts and TV broadcast version of Halloween. They look horrid! Not sure how the SD inserts looked on the box set but the SD inserts for this extended cut look worse than they do on my Italian set. Also, the audio is Dolby digital 5.1 on the extended cut vs. the lossless audio on the Italian set. Both of these cuts have been highly requested for a while and it's a shame they were just treated like afterthoughts. I'll be keeping my Italian set for the superior extended cut on that release.

It's definitely not one of those "I haven't seen this movie since the premiere" tracks where they sit there just reacting like they have never seen it before. That lady knows her Halloween.
I adore this track. The fun rapport between Carpenter and Curtis is infectious. I love how she acts like John has never seen the movie (or made it, apparently) and keeps saying to him "watch this; that is SO SCARY". I'd love to have her over for dinner. I have a feeling my wife and I wouldn't get to talk much, and we would not mind at all.

Afterthoughts? I figured the extended and TV broadcast versions were more supplemental bonus material than feature presentations.

LOL, that's too funny, because we had a similar conversation at my house tonight. I'm like, I'd watch a movie and listen to JLC any time, if she is in it, or not. I'd actually LOVE to hear her do a Psycho commentary...

I also can attest that this is indeed a quality track - my hubby gives me that "oh that's so cute that you listen to people talking during a movie" look whenever I mention commentaries, and he has never sat through one in his life (it would be painful for him).

That said, LOL - he heard five minutes of this one from the next room and asked me if we could watch the movie and listen to the whole thing this weekend. For him to ask me to listen to a commentary, you know it's entertaining.

But it was so entertaining. It should be included as a special feature in a future release of Halloween 2018.

Sorry to ask. Is the new 4k much better than the Lionsgate 4k? This is one of my favourite films. I will double dip if it is. I'm a noob when it comes to 4k. So I thought I would ask here. As you guys know much more than I ever could.Thanks. Any help is truly appreciated.

Yes, it looks to be a large upgrade and a more accurate transfer, plus a better mono track and more extras.

The only reason to watch the 2007 disc (IMMFHO) is for the Carpenter/Curtis/Hill commentary that was originally on the 1994 LaserDisc. It’s the best and most informative Halloween commentary (again, IMO).

As someone who hasn't owned Halloween since VHS, this was my only disappointment with this release because otherwise I felt it was "complete" and I was finally ready to bite. I love the newer commentary with JLC and Carpenter, but I really want to hear this one, too.

Is this the one I am looking for? I know the local used store has a whole rack of Halloween releases LOL, I'm sure I can find it.
