I've heard City Lights is one of Chaplin's best films. Since I passed on Chaplin during the last B&N sale, I'll probably pick this up.

They shouldn't be flipper discs. Take a look at the picture for Zatoichi. You can see one of the discs inside the set, which has disc art.

Announcement day makes me so happy.

It's like when you open presents on Christmas morning, except it comes 12 times a year!

City Light's is the only one I'll be buying. I may double dip on Tokyo Story purely for the extras. Frances Ha
I've not seen many of the Zatoichi films, so i'll probably pass on that.

Definitely, Hopefully a Christmas present for me this year. Never seen any of the Zatoichi films but they looks really fun and entertaining.

I'm not crazy about the artwork either but they could put it in a paper bag and I'd still buy it with a smile on my face!

Sad because these announcements are boring and mean nothing to me.

Bring on the Cronenberg, Polanski, Lynch. Also, it's about time we get Equinox on blu-ray.
Hear, hear. Their line up so far is so boring. I've only pre-ordered one film that Criterion have brought out this year and that is The Spy Who Came In From The Cold. Enough with the Ozu titles already, Criterion have released enough. Bring on the Polanski and Lynch titles.

You release Linklater's Slackers, but you don't release Mann's Thief?

And for pity's sake where is Le Samourai

I know I'm annoying, but I won't stop complaining about Le Samourai till it gets a BD release.

Still there is a plus. I won't be spending money on the Criterion titles, meaning I will have enough for the Arrow titles being released during the final quarter of this year.

Agreed, it's really fun, especially when you get the presents you've wanted for such a long time

So it's Zatoichi, Frances Ha, Tokyo Story, and City Lights?

Well.. I'm in for the last two.

That plus the Zatoichi box set are the titles for November. Oh well, no Lynch titles.. Maybe next month.

That's a relief. I hate having to wipe off the smudges when someone handles my discs wrong.

I'll of course be getting all but Frances Ha. I like Baumbach, but I just don't feel like I need to own this one. Doesn't look interesting to me.

Amazing set of announcements.

I can't justify a blind buy of the Zatoichi set - Can anyone recommend a good one to try before I buy? Is it best to start at the start, or it there a better entry point?

Frances Ha is honestly a really good film. I went into the film with low expectations and I ended up being immersed more and more with each passing minute.

Well.. they still haven't topped November 2011. Wish they had changed the Tokyo Story cover. It wasn't good before and it's not good now.

Good month.. not their best. I can't really complain. I've been wanting a new Ozu for the longest time.

The several members on this thread that compared it to Girls scared me away from it.

Tokyo Story is the only definite buy for me. I might look more into Frances Ha.

The Zatoichi box set looks amazing but I don't know if I'd like those films though. I'll try to see one or two of them somewhere first.

I hope the Lynch and Cronenberg films are in December.

Sorry to disappoint, but I really couldn't stand that film. I bet Francis was laughing her face off when she gladly took the £40 I spent on the two tickets to see this annoyance.
