Rambo was distributed by Sony Pictures in Australia, not Lionsgate. Lionsgate only had U.S rights. Given how long it’s been since the Lionsgate version hit the market I’d say it’s unlikely Sony has any plans for this in any of the worldwide territories they the hold rights to.

Via Vision licensed American Psycho from Lionsgate years after the US release, so there's already a precedent right there along with their Saw and Reservoir Dogs 4K editions. There's obviously no issue with Via Vision/Imprint cooperating with Sony, since the Saw collection ported the old local disc masters for all the sequels up to The Final Chapter.

Yes all good examples and before Via Vision started releasing their 4K editions, all the previous local Blu Ray editions of American Psycho, Reservoir Dogs and the Saw films (and Crank for that matter) all featured the Lionsgate logo on the back cover credits block. Rambo does not. It’s listed instead as a Millennium Films production in association with Nu Image. Of course things change, rights change, anything is possible. Just pointing out that in Australia previous editions have no company credits for Lionsgate.
I will say this: I own the U.S. 4K of Rambo and it’s only a slight upgrade from the Bluray and only really due to HDR. Detail at times is worse than Bluray to my eyes. I certainly would be wary if any boutique label acquired it in Australia cause it’s not worth the money that someone like Imprint would charge, if it’s the same transfer (which it likely would be a direct port).

I thought it was a decent transfer and I am happy it came with both cuts and all extras

Yep agreed with both cuts plus all those extras including an hour and a half production diary. It’s worth owning for all that - but I did compare the picture quality with my Sony disc and it seemed softer overall. Lionsgate is working on a new complete Rambo 4K set for the U.S, so it will be interesting if any improvements can be made to the picture quality. The sound on the other hand is an absolute beast.

It's a filmout, that's why it's not as sharp as the old BD which was directly created from the digital intermediate. Lionsgate did that with a few of their older releases, I guess as a cheap way to make it look more like the theatrical exhibition. If there is a new transfer for the US set, hopefully it's a full rebuild from the original Super 35 negative. Which we would already have if Sony had bothered with it. Apparently the new versions of the older films are set to have better audio, particularly the second film as the original stems were only recenty discovered and the previous 4K audio was sourced from a poor-quality dupe.

Looks like the exact same discs too and considering they are nearly a decade old...

Makes it sting less that I just imported 3:10 to Yuma

Good choice. It's a nice looking transfer (I got the lowly 4K iTunes version and it looks great for a stream).

Not sure if ViaVision truly believe packaging up old discs with a whole bunch of tat and a lenticular cover nobody asked for is a sustainable business model in the long-term.

I'll be grabbing 3:10 to Yuma for sure.

Love that film and I haven't got it on 4K.

Was about to complain that it is a shame we are not getting a Ballerina 4K Steelbook, as would have gone nicely with the John Wick 4 SB & JW 1-3 4K set… At the moment, it’s close to $80 at Amazon. However, thought I’d check again, and lo and behold, we are getting a Steelbook, but almost a month later.
WTF.

Blurb from JB’s website:

Please note - the Ballerina 4K Steelbook will be released October 8th, 2025. The DVD, Blu-Ray and standard 4K versions of this film will release September 10th.

And what’s with The Boys S4 BD being pushed out a month for its release in Australia. It did initially have a release date the same week as the UK and the US. Is the distributor simply shipping in US or UK prints of the discs, rather then printing their own here.
Don’t understand why there would be a delay.

Roadshow doing new things I guess. At least they are being up front with this unlike the catelogue 4K releases where they just release the steelbook and don't say anything about the standard release until months later

I remember Roadshow did that once before with the Jason Statham film The Beekeeper, where the Blu Ray and DVD came out end of March but the regular 4K came out beginning of May - and JB did print a similar blurb so buyers were made aware of the 4K edition coming later. In the case of The Beekeeper our Bluray release was much earlier than the overseas 4K releases, but for Ballerina I don’t understand the delay given it’s coming out in most countries around same time as our regular version.
