The talk of limited edition vs standard edition reminds me I'm still waiting for a regular release of the Chucky collection box set from Arrow. It will be two years this December, so guessing we are not getting one & I'll have to resort to picking up the ugly/awkward limited edition set at some point. If we're going to have a standard edition, history shows it's usually within a year/eighteen months or not at all!

You could buy ten films for the price of that repackaged one.

Unless it is some kind of litmus test to see how much of a 'fan' you are of a specific film. "This is my mostest favourite film ever because I bought the wang-brick edition". Bit like how bands dictate how much of a fan you are based on how deep your pockets are, screw that.
Like Folio Society editions, most of them are naff, tacky and low-status. No getting around the cringe factor of all but the most unassuming sets.

We need to combat FOMO by starting MOIF. Missing Out Is Fine.

Standard would only come out once the limited is sold out/nearly sold out. The limited edition has been almost 40% off on occasion and doesn't appear to be even close to going out of stock, it doesn't give the impression of being a big seller. The hideous art work, the lack of the original in 4K and the strange packaging were enormous detractions from the set (talking as someone who did actually buy it, at 20% off with HMV discount code).

Hear, hear. As Jerome K said in Three Men in a Boat:
Quote:
Throw the lumber over, man! Let your boat of life be light, packed
with only what you need—a homely home and simple pleasures, one or two
friends, worth the name, someone to love and someone to love you, a
cat, a dog, and a pipe or two, enough to eat and enough to wear, and a
little more than enough to drink; for thirst is a dangerous thing.

Yes, those reasons are exactly why I was waiting to see if I'd prefer a standard edition of this release (as I did with Hellraiser Tetralogy and the individual cases with reverse cover art)! I suppose it's a bit of a catch 22; if nobody buys up all the limited edition stock then we won't get a standard edition (which is why a few of us haven't bought it in the first place).

I still have my 1-7 Universal Blu-Ray box set, so can be patient for a little while longer yet

This is presumably one of the main factors - the large spectre of streaming looming over physical media. If people don’t like or want the tat editions, the alternative may just be that physical media will decline even more and eventually just die off entirely, so be careful what you wish for…

Yes but what if streaming technologies are the solution? Personally I want nice folio editions of my favourite movies on my shelf but I am not so arrogant as to presume it's the best way. Especially when I find myself coveting mediocre movies and paying luxury brand prices for movies I bought previously for next to nothing in multi-buy deals. When I was happy to buy s/h vhs pre certs then sell-thru VHS; VCD; Dutch uncut imports and US region 1 DVDs, my motivation was always about getting stuff I couldn't see on tv. Those days are gone. I'd rather subscribe to a label's streaming channel than buy stuff that will gather dust on a shelf for occasional viewing, if at all. I've upgraded discs I haven't even watched, for Pete's sake.

Now I am not even able to secure copies of movies I want because the audience has doubled to include scalpers who recognise the value of FOMO. I couldn't get Dark City 4K LE but someone on Amazon UK has two listings for copies over £500. How did he get multiple copies and I had to settle for a blu version? I'm bored with it now.

Arrow could play a masterful troll move here and announce a 4K Remaster of Mystic Pizza (1988)

I'd be too entertained to be pissed

Yeah this is me. If all these LEs only contained slips / posters / artcards I'd be a lot better off
