I am sure this was posted somewhere...but if you were the Emperor, wouldn't you have cloned yourself at least once or twice?

IF he did, maybe he sent his clone to the unfinished Death Star to oversee its completion?

I am confused about the whole EU being tossed. What does that mean for Kamino? Did anything happen to the planet or its inhabitants?

Why would anything happen to Kamino just because the EU was binned? It was in AOTC, there's no wiping that off the record.

Nothing should happen to it. I am curious if it will ever get mentioned again and if so, did Palpatine clone himself.

I am pretty sure it was the fact that George directing all three movies was the biggest.

Sorry, I meant, Mr. Lucas. I cannot stop think if they would have been any better if someone else directed 2 out of the 3.

when I saw behind the scenes of TPM I was almost giddy to see Steven Spielberg walking around the set. I thought, 'maybe he was going to direct the next movie.'

The Top 5 Crimes of the SW Prequels
  1. George Lucas directing all of them.
  2. Jar Jar Binks
  3. The dialog in Attack of the Clones and ROS
  4. Having James Earl Jones scream "Nooooo"
  5. Jar Jar Binks

I remember watching those scenes and getting the impression that Spielberg didn't really want to be there. Lucas was showing him and droids and going on and on; Steve was just like "uh huh...sure..."

I don't know if it's that documentary or another one, but IIRC Lucas is showing Spielberg the battle droid mockups and the end of the bit they both say "It's gonna be great" and they repeat it back to each other a few times, I always thought it sounded like they were trying to convince themselves.

To give them both credit, neither of them knew how audiences would respond to the film, and one reason so many were disappointed was due to the insane amount of hype. No film could possibly live up to the amount of coverage "Phantom Menace" got in the media; its just not possible.

I'd erase the the second Jar Jar Binks entry and include the Anakin/Padme romance.

I thought I covered that with "3.The dialog in Attack of the Clones and ROS"

You know what though? As terrible as the dialogue is in that balcony scene, at least Portman isn't playing Padme like a goddamned robot. She genuinely looks happy and contented, and - dare I say it - I even detect a hint of playfulness during that whole "I'm so in love with you" bit, as if they both know how corny they're being. But that'd be giving Lucas far too much credit....

That scene didn't exactly work but it came pretty close. They actually felt like a couple for the first time and the playfulness (for me, anyway) came more from the sense that she was twisting what he was saying and he knew she was just playing with him and he was kind of laughing off her attempt to faux trap him. And to be fair, I think it was probably written that way.

I agree that was the one scene where they tried to make a much better attempt at the dialogue between them - similarly they tried in the "Hold me...like you did back by the lake on Naboo" stuff. It was terrible dialogue in both but both moments came off better than Clones because they almost seemed to be trying to be more convincing about what they were saying.

If I recall correctly, Lucas hired someone to rehearse this stuff with Hayden and Natalie on ROTS which he didnt do on AOTC, something which probably helped them. Im sure its in one of the Behind the Scenes books.

My best guess is there will be a teaser before Big Hero 6.

True but that is a factor in every film. Plus people complained about the changes he made in the special editions so it wasn't like he was unaware that his new approach might not go over so well with the audience. Had the special editions been a huge success, I could see him doing Phantom Menace like he did but when the general impression was "good but why did they make all the changes?", he should have had an idea. That's where JJ could be shooting himself in the foot with all the talk about going back to the style/spirit of the original films(or "it will be nothing like the prequels") - if the story doesn't work, who cares that you used real sets and not cgi, etc.

Not to open up this can of worms yet again, but I never understood the hate over the Special Editions for the most part. The only change that truly bugs me is the "Jedi Rocks" sequence in Episode VI, because it stops the story in its tracks and you can't understand a word. More changes were done for the Blu-Rays, but most of those didn't bug me, either...and I grew up with the theatrical versions on VHS (being 16 in early 1997 when the SEs hit theaters).
