well, to be fair i think The Departed is more "gangster / mafia" than simple "crime". and Fargo is about the characters, The Departed is a thriller / gangster type. and the "dry"ness of Fargo is supposed to be that way. it's the humor. but if you didn't get the humor, that would almost instantly make someone dislike it.

i got it i just thought it was insanely weak compared to other films. There no redeeming this movie. Everyone isnt gonna agree on the same films. In addition im not going to force myself to like a movie because everyone else thinks its good.

1. thank you Captain Obvious for showing up of course we aren't all gonna agree, i was simply stating / kind of asking maybe why you didn't like it. because most people don't get the humor, and thus, dislike the movie.

2. no one said to do that. there's a million movies i think are garbage that other people like. just a quick look at your collection and i see about 15 on the first page almost. just the way it works.

You have to get Squid and Higgy's approval before creating a new word

Fargo has a twist ending??
[Show spoiler]The bad dude gets caught?
Yeah, that's quite twisty.

Seriously, Fargo is a film that grows on most people after repeated viewings. I gave it 3/5 stars on first viewing in '96, as back then I was all about action-action-action films (party college era), and it was too slow for me. On repeated viewings in the past 3 years, I've grown to love it, and now its one of my all-time favs, as its character study/development is second to none. The feelings going through each characters mind is quite deep and moving once I watched the film enough to get it.

This shows a universal truth: when I rate a film, I'm not really rating the film. I'm rating my expectations of the film and how well the film matched them. In '96, my expectations didn't match the film, hence a sucky rating. Now my expectations do match the film, hence a great rating. Ironically, I'm rating myself as much as the movie, whenever I rate a movie..

i thought
[Show spoiler]him turning and chopping his partner up was pretty twisted

And i hear what you are saying but rate movies as follows
1- Hated
2- Disliked
3- OK
4- Liked it
5- Loved it

If i dont sell it in the near future i might watch it again. Its too mellow, and not enough punch.

yeah, just don't destroy it. if you do, i'll purposely go down to best buy, get a copy of Inglorious, do the same, take photos, and post them...or even worse...i'll hold the BD hostage via live video feed until you say you love Fargo!!! j/k if that doesn't work i'll get a brad pitt Inglorious poster!!!

Planet of the Apes (2001)

Film: 4/5 (definitely in my "guilty pleasure" list)
-three words come to mind: "A for effort". I really think the screenwriters did a good job in trying to come up with a interesting story here. I love the ending, so again, I'm in the minority. I just love the aspect of time and alternate dimensions and
[Show spoiler] working out who was where, at what time.
. Its actually very "Lost-like"
-In the end, here is the timeline I reckon. I'll list chronologically in terms of "movie time", but will put A.D. time beside each:
[Show spoiler]
2001-Wahlberg leaves ship
2001-Chimp leaves ship
2300 (early)-Wahlberg arrives on planet
2001-Ship arrives on planet (w/ Simos chimp, looking for Wahlberg)
2300 (late)-Chimp arrives on planet
2300 (late)-Wahlberg leaves planet for earth
2001 #2- Wahlberg arrives on earth, with ape cops and Simos as Abe Lincoln

How did earth in 2001 #2 have apes and Simos ape as Abe Lincoln?
2001 - Simos leaves planet in pod for earth (when ship looking for Wahlberg arrives on planet, and Simos/apes take it over)
1700 (or before) - Simos arrives on earth (time warped on way back to earth), organizes ape take-over of man

PQ: 2/5 (pretty poor for Blu. Doesn't deserve an average 3/5 IMO)

AQ: 5/5 (wow! What a PQ-AQ mismatch!!! I couldn't believe the surround sound when the ships were taking off/landing...my house shook!)

I think it's one of Burton's best films and I actually thought Carter looked good in her monkey suit.

I just saw The Professional on blu ray. One of the best movies I ever saw. I remember seeing it back when I was 9 years old. Now I get to see it on blu ray. The video is awesome. This movie is the best I seen so far.

Brazil review, check it out.

[Show spoiler]Brazil: 3 out of 4

Fantasy is a dream that you already can have, just isn’t that you have it. Terry Gilliam, former member of Monty Python troupe and animator, took the reins of direction of this near future dystopia black comedy; the imagination of Gilliam is in full display, although it is not entirely coherent, some of which echoes a lot to python territory. The movie is entirely original otherwise, even bringing up the careers of less notable actors at the time (such as Jonathan Pryce and Robert De Niro). The success of Brazil opened the door for Gilliam to a more broad range of productions, notably 12 Monkeys.

In the near future, everything needs to be kept an eye on, bureaucracy is everything, violence is everything, everything needs a permit, terrorist bombings are not uncommon, they keep everything error free, until one man is mistaken for a terrorist. A daydreaming Bureaucrat Sam Lowry (Jonathan Pryce) earns a promotion that allows him to work in communication control; he resents the promotion, while his mother (Katherine Helmond) makes everything for him to do, which he doesn’t try to control. After discovering someone that looks like the woman of his dreams (Kim Greist), he tries to investigate on her. That woman is also trying to find out why the man who is mistaken for a terrorist is being arrested. The woman wants to find who wronged him, the bureaucrat wants her. During that time, he begins getting controlled and even being harassed by those working for the system.

This is a satirized world of materialism, consumerism, and totalitarian governments that dominates the world even today, which some of its creations look as if it came from a Python skit, with Terry Gilliam in creative control; the government and civilization is also modeled after the Orwellian society, but shown more buffoonish. The film may appear outdated technologically, but those themes are easy to associate especially in today’s modern world, where we celebrate materialism and paranoia; Gilliam uses many cultural and political exploits to model a future that would go down to that path. Gilliam also uses inventive editing techniques that is hit or miss, but always inspired to create more of a piece of art. It is considered by many to be his best film.
