Back it up and save it to what? A hard drive that is bound to fail earlier than the blu ray disc itself?

The discs themselves are actually the safest way of preserving what is on the disc. Plus they have the "divided we fall" factor, whereas when your hard drive fails, you lose everything that is on it.

Well, FWIW, there's a lot of small theaters here in NYC (Can think of at least 8 off the top of my head) that play old movies all the time. I get out as often as I can, and these places are usually a full house (Though granted, I'm going to see "Stayin' Alive" next week and there's definitely a lot of seats still available, lol). I've got at least 6 old movies that I'm going to see this month, and as the weather gets warmer these places start putting out more and more of the good stuff. I've never been to a drive-in movie before but I hear they still exist, so there's that to.

Threads have been combined! That's great in that it brings new people and new points of view to the discussion. It should freshen things up a bit around here.

I thought it had been deleted due to the disc crowd getting out of hand

I was wondering what I had missed and had to find it by looking at my past posts.

We're pretty nice, mostly. If you were our guest, we'd probably let you pick what disc to watch. We might even bake cookies.

Its kind of a shame they changed the name and moved physical vs digital out of the digital sub forum I mean it was like one of the top 3 most frequented digital threads. The only digital threads that perhaps had more traffic are the itunes 4k and moviesanywhere threads with people having to report problems with digital services and where to redeem a title because its not straight forwards (and a few posts about singular new titles added to whatever service)

Dude, you can't constantly serve others $#!% if you aren't willing to sit down and have a bowl yourself every once in awhile. It is your unwillingness to do this and keep a civil tone in your post that has reduced me to GIF remarks and ridicule from others. So nut up and stop playing the victim. Anyone who's participated in this thread knows you aren't by now

Guys, multiple threads were being created and similar discussions were being carried out across different forums. One long running thread was created in the digital forum but it was always a discussion on home video technology and not on digital releases.

The current title and forum location appears to be the better fit for the content . We can always revise if it does not workout.

No, you have done that since day one. You and your two buddies (from way back) who I won’t name. Let’s not pretend this is a recent thing. It doesn’t matter how outlandish you consider my views to be, you don’t have to be such a (imo) wise ass all the time.

Anyway, now that I have seen your pic, I reckon I could take you!

Who the hell are you talking about? If you don't want to mention them, why vaguely bring them up? Again, nut up and stop playing the victim. Because you get shit for the same reason alchav21 does. Only he seems to roll with the punches better than you. So good luck with that last one

I found the report on the listening tests I mentioned earlier (at the time I was working for a company that supplied software to one of the participating labs):

https://tech.ebu.ch/docs/tech/tech3324.pdf

AC3@640kbps was not tested, but AC3@384 was rated excellent, and E-AC3@448 got basically the same score as the original from the testers.
The standard for DVD was 448. 384 was a carryover from Laserdisc.

This thread has changed its name yet again; three names in 24 hours. I fear that it is having an identity crisis.

Nah, think of it more of an evolution rather than an identity crisis Vilya

Sony has produced a 3.3 TB disc. Granted it is meant for storage only, but I am hoping that somehow it will get converted into a true 4k format. The 2100+K UHD is certainly very nice looking for a kinda sorta 4k, but I want to see the same true 4k that I see in my Megaplex. If they do, it will probably be called 8k or some nonsense like that. Sure this news is a couple of years ago, but it is new for me today.
