I have no problem with images downloaded from CineMaterial being posted here, obviously. I don't have any exclusive rights to these images and I'm well aware of that.

The value of CineMaterial is in the organization of all these thousands of images and the ease of use. It is the most complete resource for movie posters there is and they want to ruin it, even though it isn't damaging their business at all (considering I offered to lower the resolution to a size that is 100% surely unprintable) and the images are posted on thousands of other websites.

I didn't even start to make a back up for all the posters. I hope they found a way out.

We must be thankfull to the uploaders who are sharing new material that has being taked down from the site, that and this holy thread are the only places where a average guy like me can get all those magnificent posters in hi-res.

I have found myself reading that thing of the copyright in Cinematerial and I was coming here to ask about that... but I see you are already speaking about it.

I have, literally, downloaded hundreds of images from MoviePosterDB. I use them to create my digipacks and, at least for me, this new situation will be a problem for sure.

So... it is totally impossible to recover all of those posters that have disappeared from the web????

Before all this mess, the site didn't show anything at all, instead it used to redirect you to CineMaterial, now maybe the good old mpdb be back online again, along with the removed posters from CM, since it's another site. If that's how things works, I'm just guessing or being naive, I don't know anything of the backstage of websites and lawsuits.

MPDB would probably face the same issues CM currently is. The material available and the credit system are pretty much the same, so on a legal front studios would treat any website the same way.

Yes this is what I'm trying right now. So far these studios seem pretty rigid though. Universal has even ordered me to remove all their posters from my Facebook/Twitter/Pinterest/GooglePlus pages!

I have already changed some things on CineMaterial after some helpful comments by Casius, so thanks for that! New releases now include a link to Fandango, and all movie pages have a link to the Amazon Blu-ray & DVD section. Each movie also has an 'Overview' page now with Cast info.

As for CineMaterial/MoviePosterDB: I was involved with MoviePosterDB but decided I wanted to start my own site, since I was the one doing all the work and the guy who owns the domain didn't do anything. It didn't feel great to leave but something definitely had to change. Anyway the owner of MPDB is now working on a new site together with a developer (actually the same developer who let the site die for a while in 2007, after which I became involved)
